163 In this episode of the Arteetude podcast, host Detlef Schlich sits down with Buko Pan Guerra, the frontwoman and guitarist of the band The Swords of Fatima, and Nick Scott, the band's drum architect. The Swords of Fatima is a quasi Punk Rock duo from Los Angeles, known for their unique sound that combines elements of Southeast Asian disco and surf punk. Buko Pan Guerra, previously known as the "Bad Ass Bitch with a Banjo" and Nick Scott, a seasoned punk rock drummer, will discuss their inspiration in art and music. The two musicians have been crafting their sound together since 2007. This episode promises to be an engaging and enlightening conversation about the creative process and the intersection of art and music.
At the conclusion of this episode, listeners will have the opportunity to experience the unique sound of The Swords of Fatima. The band pushes the boundaries of traditional rock and punk music, blending it with exotic elements to create a fierce and unparalleled version of Tibetan Spy Music.
Many worlds converge into the sound of The Swords of Fatima: Bollywood, belly dance, flamenco, punk, surf, garage, country, and dark psyche folk. Some say that they are the only band to play multiple genres in every song. Some call them Tibetan Spy Music. Some try to compare them to something more familiar like Siouxsie and the Banshees, X-Ray Spex, or Dick Dale. Front woman, Buko Pan Guerra, guitarist and singer, previously known as the "Bad Ass Bitch with a Banjo" (coined by Sean Carnage) and as Lady Simmons when she played bass for Lily and the Ladies. Still attached to her banjo (her best friend for many years), plays her guitar in a banjo-styled tuning. She is fascinated by ancient stories and music from her heritage: Filipino, Turkish, Armenian, Spanish, Malaysian, and Indian. Her main influences for writing music are ancient folktales, caravans in the desert, sails sailing across the sea, Arabian nights, shamans, kundalini text, her grandmother (who is a faith healer), Samurai films, and classical music. Kim Fredrick of Punk Globe says “Buko sounds as though she has twelve hands when she plays.” Nick Scott is the architect behind the drums. Nick has many years developing his craft behind the set with POPDeFECT and Project K. Since forming in 2007, they have crafted the sound of Southeast Asian Disco Surf Punk madness that the band has become today.

This episode promises to be an engaging and enlightening conversation about the creative process and the intersection of art and music.

Felicitas Gross is an artist, living in West Cork. She travelled in 2006 with her Fire Engine from the GDR to Ireland.
East Germany, officially the German Democratic Republic, was a country that existed from its creation on 7 October 1949 until its dissolution on 3 October 1990. In these years the state was a part of the Eastern Bloc in the Cold War. Commonly described as a communist state, it described itself as a socialist "workers' and peasants' state". Its territory was administered and occupied by Soviet forces following the end of World War II—the Soviet occupation zone of the Potsdam Agreement, bounded on the east by the Oder–Neisse line. The Soviet zone surrounded West Berlin but did not include it and West Berlin remained outside the jurisdiction of the GDR.

Pat Allott is a musician with some roots in classic and Latin American music, Influenced by his parents. One of his last projects is still ongoing and based on Funk. Pure funk. Quangodelic is a Cork based 12-17 piece band. Pat, now Quangodelic‘s singer bass player has in previous incarnations done Fanning sessions, supported Gil Scot Herron, played the marque in London DJed at Funk Off, pirate stations etc etc etc but this lineup he considered is still the best yet.
ArTEEtude is West Cork´s podcast for Art, [digital] Culture and true stories, created and produced by Detlef Schlich. Schlich operates his podcast cross-sectorally. For him, a visual artist has to think transversely instead of just enjoying the luxury of being the antagonist. To drive the narrative and be a protagonist, he will dive and discover with us into the unknown and exciting deep ocean of the creative mind.
Detlef Schlich is Podcaster, Visual Artist, Film Maker, Ritual Designer and Media Archaeologist, living and loving in West Cork and best known for his Essay about the Cause and Effect of Shamanism, Art and Digital Culture and the video installation Transodin´s Tragedy. He mainly works in performance, photography, painting, sound, installations, and film. To research our human condition and create artwork from this reflection, he often uses the digital shaman's methodology as alter ego. His media archaeology is a conceptual and practical exercise in carving out the aesthetic, cultural, and political singularities of media in culture.
