S.3 E.6: Poetry as Healing with Nadia Merchant
48m | Mar 21, 2024In today's episode, the sisters sit down and speak with Nadia, a police officer who uses poetry to help support her experiences with trauma and PTSD.
Nadia is a police officer in Ontario diagnosed with PTSD as a result of several traumatic calls she dealt with in the course of her duties. Having always enjoyed writing as a means to express herself, Nadia turned to poetry during the worst of her mental health. Eventually, in an attempt to combat the deeply rooted shame she felt for her mental health struggles, she began posting her poetry to Instagram. Nadia believes that while life experiences differ from person to person, the human emotional experience is universal. It is from this perspective that she writes raw and relatable poetry which can be found on Instagram under the handle @shes_writing_now.
