Father Guilt

8m | Sep 29, 2026

Nobody talks about the dad version of this.

We talk about mom guilt constantly, and rightfully so, but men carry the same weight and almost never say it out loud.

The guilt of missing the events. The guilt of walking through the door at night with nothing left to give your wife. The instinct to provide that doesn't switch off just because you're tired.

I recently spent about 30 minutes in a pool with my three year old in San Diego. Out of the entire trip, that's the part he remembers, and the conversation we had afterward changed how I think about all of it.

This one is for the men, and for the women who want to understand what their husband is carrying around.

What you’ll learn about in this episode:

  • Why fathers carry a version of guilt that rarely gets discussed openly.
  • How the instinct to provide runs deeper than most men admit.
  • Why memories of my hardworking father look different than you would expect.
  • How 30 minutes in a pool outweighed an entire week away.
  • Why explaining the reason behind the work changes how children see it.
  • How to get a spouse onto the same mission instead of opposing sides.
  • Why a thriving business means nothing if the marriage falls apart.
  • How family core values should guide every decision your household makes.
  • Why core values have to be rewritten as the family grows.
  • Why date nights do not have to only be sitting in restaurants.
  • What one hard conversation at a retreat permanently changed for me about fatherhood.
  • Why being present matters more than getting the balance perfectly right.
  • How reporting your day to your spouse builds trust instead of resentment.
