- 25. From Pain to Purpose: A Mother's Journey to Advocate for Her Son's Health
What if your child's biggest challenges became the doorway to a whole new way of advocating for them?
In this episode of Go With Your Gut, I sit down with Jamie — mother, advocate, and founder of Uniquely You Magazine — to talk about her journey navigating her son's developmental and communication challenges, and how it reshaped the way she thinks about food, advocacy, education, and possibility.
Jamie shares what she learned through nutrition, gut health, and genetics as she worked to understand her son's needs. Shifting toward whole foods and removing trigger foods brought his first real breakthroughs, decreasing seizures. Targeted detoxification cleared even more behavioral symptoms.
Her son's participation in Triada's PEARL study revealed harmful chemicals still hiding in his "safe" diet. Once Jamie added organic, higher-fiber foods, he came out of a fog — his eye contact improved and he became more responsive than ever before.
Beyond food, we dig into what it means to meet children where they are, why not every child learns or communicates the same way, and the real obstacles families face advocating for accommodations and alternative approaches within the school system.
Finally, Jamie shares how she turned her personal experience into a larger mission through Uniquely You Magazine — a publication sharing stories, resources, and opportunities within the disability community — and her vision for building even more support for families like hers.
If you're a parent, caregiver, educator, or anyone wanting to better understand neurodiversity, advocacy, and the many paths to supporting it, this episode is for you.

Struggling with stubborn acne that never seems to go away—no matter what products, prescriptions, or skincare routines you try?
In this episode of Go With Your Gut, I sit down with functional nutritionist Delaney Doney, to explore the deeper root causes of acne and why lasting skin health often starts from within.
Delaney shares her personal journey through chronic health issues, including cystic acne, digestive problems, fatigue, anxiety, and toxic mold exposure. Through her experience and advanced training in functional medicine, she discovered that acne is often a symptom of underlying imbalances rather than simply a skin problem.
Together, we discuss the powerful connection between the gut, hormones, stress, and skin health, and why conventional acne treatments may not address the true drivers behind persistent breakouts. We also unpack the role of the microbiome, nutrient deficiencies, blood sugar balance, environmental factors, and nervous system regulation in achieving clearer skin.
Whether you're a teen struggling with acne, an adult dealing with recurring breakouts, or simply curious about the gut-skin connection, this conversation offers practical, science-backed insights to help you better understand what your skin may be trying to tell you.

1h 1m - Jun 10, 2026 - 18. The Protein Craze: Healthy or Harmful?
Protein is essential for muscle growth, metabolism, hormones, immune health, and longevity… but more is not always better.
In this episode, I break down the modern protein obsession — from protein Pop-Tarts and candy to bars, shakes, powders, and the “1 gram per pound” rule dominating social media.
I dive into how excess protein and highly processed “high-protein” foods may negatively impact the gut microbiome, increase inflammation, and contribute to issues like constipation and digestive dysfunction — especially when paired with a low-fiber diet. I also unpack how much protein most people actually need, why quality matters more than marketing, and what to look for when choosing protein powders, bars, and drinks.
It's time to look beyond the marketing of protein and look at why quality matters just as much as quantity.

21m - May 27, 2026 - 17. Rebirth of the Gut with Thaena
In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Andrea McBeth, Co-Founder and CEO of Thaena®, to explore one of the most fascinating frontiers in gut health: postbiotics derived from healthy microbiomes.
We break down the science behind fecal transplants and how Thaena has transformed that concept into a sterilized, accessible postbiotic—capturing the powerful communication molecules our gut bacteria produce without the risks of live bacteria. From short-chain fatty acids like butyrate to neurotransmitter precursors and immune-modulating compounds, we dive into how these molecules influence everything from digestion and inflammation to brain health and metabolism.
We also talk about real-world applications—why traditional gut protocols sometimes fail, how postbiotics can help “jumpstart” the microbiome, and their potential role in conditions like IBS, SIBO, constipation, and even neuroinflammatory disorders.
This conversation challenges the way we think about probiotics, nutrition, and the future of medicine—highlighting just how much we still have to learn about the ecosystem inside us.

52m - Mar 18, 2026 - 12. Probiotics vs. Fermented Foods: What Truly Supports Your Gut?
With an $80 billion probiotic market, it’s easy to believe a capsule is the answer — but is it? In this episode of Go With Your Gut, we explore the difference between probiotic supplements and fermented foods, and what actually creates lasting change in the microbiome. I walk through the science of CFUs, strains, spore-based probiotics, and why certain gut conditions require a more strategic approach. We also look at emerging research showing how fermented foods improve the gut environment itself, supporting true diversity and resilience. Because when we nourish the terrain — not just add more microbes — healing becomes sustainable.

39m - Mar 4, 2026 - 11. Helping Teens Regulate Stress Through Nature with Scott Rinehart
What if one of the biggest sources of anxiety in our kids isn’t something we can fix with more effort, but something we need to step away from? In this episode of Go With Your Gut, I sit down with longtime educator and wilderness guide Scott Rinehart to explore how time in nature — away from phones, schedules, and pressure — can profoundly shape a young person’s emotional and social well-being. We talk about what happens when teens are given space to disconnect from constant stimulation and reconnect with themselves, each other, and the natural world. Scott shares decades of insight from leading wilderness backpacking trips, where confidence, resilience, and authentic connection emerge naturally. 1h 9m - Feb 18, 2026 - 10. Dietary Guidelines for Americans: Clearing Confusion & Controversy
Are the new Dietary Guidelines for Americans actually helping us eat better — or leaving us more confused than ever? In this episode of Go With Your Gut, we take a thoughtful look at the newly released guidelines and the inverted food pyramid that’s stirring up questions. I walk through what these recommendations get right, where they fall short, and why so much of the messaging still misses the mark when it comes to gut health, vegetables, and ultra-processed foods. We explore the ongoing push for dairy, the lack of clarity around portions, and the bigger influences shaping our food system — from farming practices to school lunches. Because real clarity doesn’t come from a graphic or a guideline alone. It comes from understanding how food affects our gut, our families, and our long-term health.

58m - Jan 21, 2026 - 8. Fibermaxxing: A Fad Diet to Start Your Health Goals on a Positive Note
What if the most powerful “diet” you try this year is simply eating more fiber—and feeling better because of it? In this episode of Go With Your Gut, we explore the TikTok trend of Fibermaxxing and reframe it as a gentle, realistic on-ramp to long-term gut and whole-body health for the entire family. I walk through simple, positive steps to add more fruits, vegetables, beans, and whole grains, while keeping an eye on the microbiome, blood sugar balance, and kids’ relationship with food. We also unpack how popular approaches like Mediterranean, Vegan, Paleo, Keto, and Pegan diets can impact growing bodies and mental health. 31m - Jan 7, 2026 - 7. My Story: From Anxiety & ADHD to Functional Nutrition
Sometimes the body whispers for years before it finally shouts through anxiety, exhaustion, or the sense that we’re quietly falling apart. In this episode of Go With Your Gut, I share my own journey—from an anxious, overwhelmed child coping with ADHD, perfectionism and an eating disorder, to a clinician searching for answers that traditional approaches never fully provided. We walk through the pivotal moments that changed everything, including the day I first learned about the microbiome and how it opened the door to a new approach for nutrient therapy, and ultimately functional medicine. I talk about how these discoveries reshaped my health, my parenting, and the way I support kids and families today. 23m - Dec 24, 2025 - 6. Reducing Sugar Stopped the Daily Meltdowns
What if three-hour daily meltdowns weren’t just a behavior issue, but a gut-brain cry for help? In this episode of Go With Your Gut, I sit down with Laura, a full-time working mom, to talk about her 11-year-old daughter’s explosive rage episodes, ADHD diagnosis, and the heartbreaking realization that both traditional talk therapy and occupational therapy still weren’t reaching the root of the problem. When the next recommendation was an anti-psychotic medication, Laura felt a deep pull to explore further—and that led her to a Functional Nutrition approach that finally made sense. We walk through how ultra-processed school lunches, sugary drinks, and constant stress were impacting her daughter’s microbiome and capacity for self-regulation, and how targeted testing revealed yeast overgrowth and crucial nutrient needs. Together, we explore the tiny, doable shifts—cutting sugary drinks, adding fruits and vegetables to every meal, choosing cleaner versions of familiar kid foods, and supporting her body with key supplements—that led to a dramatic reduction in outbursts in just three months. Because when families understand how food shapes mood, small steps at the table can become a turning point for confidence, connection, and hope.
