• Episode 11: Brooks Wine (or....drink like Obama!)

April Abate, Director of Business Development & Education, takes us through a flight of Pinot noir and Riesling while sharing the stories that make Brooks a favorite spot for so many. The story of Jimi Brooks is one showcasing the collaboration of the Willamette Valley wine community. His legacy continues with decisions still being made with his vision in mind - from the wines and labels, to the farming practices and winemaking approach. You'll soon see why the Ouroboros is the perfect symbol of the Brooks philosophy.

***CORRECTION to terms used for second fermentation: "Tirage" is the sweet wine/juice and yeast combo as well as the length of time the wine rests on the lees. "Dosage" is the sweetening agent added when the dead lees are removed to sweeten the final sparkling product (which is not added at Brooks.)

When Elena Rodriguez returned to Dayton, Oregon to help out with the vineyard her father had planted, she took on hard work, sleepless nights, and continuous self-education. Elena has used her life perspective to create a winery that approaches the work with an intention and a purpose. This includes the passion she brings to AHIVOY, a non-profit organization created to bring the power of education to the vineyard stewards of the Willamette Valley. • Study Session 2: Wine Closures (ft. winemaker Thomas Houseman)

Thomas shares some life lessons with us:

    3) There's no "right" way to make wine, AND no "right" bottle closure
