His own backyard close encounter with a flying saucer at age 10 launched him on a lifelong exploration of anomalous phenomena and their intersection with spiritual beliefs. He studied Hinduism, Buddhism, and even Satanism, before taking a surprise turn into Christianity. He was ordained as a minister, but never stopped researching UAP and every aspect of the paranormal.

Ray Boeche is one of the last of the old school UFO researchers still alive, who personally knew all of the greats from the 60s and 70s: J Allen Hynek, John Keel, Jacques Vallée, Gray Barker, Jim and Coral Lorenzen, Stanton Friedman, and on and on. He has a sixty year career of studying high strangeness. Not just UFOs. Bigfoot—in the middle of an urban street. Poltergeist phenomena—after witnessing a bigfoot. Cattle mutilations—even a goat mutilation in the middle of Lincoln in broad daylight.

He studied theology as well. And that unique perspective allowed him to see that ufology isn’t nearly weird enough, and the extraterrestrial hypothesis is just too simple. He could clearly see that UFO research groups like NICAP and MUFON had creeds and dogmas as strict as any religion, which limited their vision to a narrow spectrum.
