S1E5 | Vocation, Timelines, & Spiritual Battles with Deacon Raffaele Salvino

Season 1 | Episode 5
49m | Apr 23, 2021

Each of us desire to know God's will for our lives. But despite our best efforts, the answers may not be as clear as we'd like for it to be. What happens when God's timeline doesn't line up with our own?

In this episode, we're blessed to hear the vocation story of Deacon Raffaele Salvino and some of the insights that he's gained from his own journey. We also discuss the anxiety around the beauty of God's invitation to deepen our relationship with Him, vocational timelines, and the spiritual battles that can be fought—and won—with the grace of God. Deacon Raffaele also shares his favourite spiritual book, a childhood memory, and a definitive answer as to whether or not pineapples belong on pizza.

Deacon Raffaele Salvino is currently a deacon ordained in the Archdiocese of Vancouver. You can follow him on Instagram @raffyasco.

Thoughts to ponder from this episode:

  • "From your birth to now, Raffaele, I know you. I've known you, I am with you. Do you want to be with me?" — God knows us intimately and desires to have a relationship with us. Do we want to be with God too?
  • "There is only the relationship, the invitation, and your response to that. And that response we call a vocation." — As Deacon Raffaele describes, we're not invited to somewhere, we are invited to someone. What do you feel God's invitation for you is? Are you ready to respond? What are some of the barriers that prevent you from entering into that invitation that He has for you?
  • "We live in the daily reality of these crazy truths that are so good that we can barely believe them, and so quickly we just fall into not believing them." — As Catholics, we hear time and time again that Jesus died to save us from our sins. Do you believe that this is a personal act of love that Jesus did for you?
