On this episode of We Like Art, comedians Tommy Mavra and Manny Muskets dive headfirst into the world of Rembrandt van Rijn, the legendary Dutch Golden Age painter, with absolutely no idea what they're looking at. Joining them is guest comedian Seamus Miller, as the guys attempt to make sense of some of Rembrandt's most fascinating, disturbing, and downright confusing paintings.
From dramatic portraits and oversized feathered hats to a 17th-century anatomy lesson that makes everyone question the medical profession, nothing is safe from the comedians' commentary. The guys debate Rembrandt's artistic genius, roast his portraits, invent ridiculous backstories, and discover the surprisingly messy personal life behind one of history's most famous artists.
Along the way, they explore Rembrandt's rise to fame, his life in Amsterdam, his relationships, and the stories behind paintings like The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp and Bathsheba at Her Bath. They even discuss Christ in the Storm on the Sea of Galilee, the famous Rembrandt painting stolen from the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum.
Will Tommy, Manny, and Seamus finally understand why Rembrandt is considered a master of art history? Or will they decide that painting portraits for a living is the most Dutch thing imaginable?
Featuring art history, stand-up comedy, bizarre historical facts, questionable art criticism, and plenty of completely unqualified opinions, this is art appreciation for people who would rather laugh than sit through a lecture.
🎨 ABOUT WE LIKE ART
We Like Art is a comedy podcast where comedians Tommy Mavra and Manny Muskets take a hilarious, not-so-serious look at history's greatest artists and their work. Every week, they blindly explore a slide deck curated by resident art historian and comedian Seth Ruddick. With zero background information, the hosts and their comedian guests guess what they're seeing while real art history slowly comes into focus.
No boring lectures. No art degree required. Just great artists, strange paintings, questionable interpretations, and comedy.

1h 14m - Oct 15, 2026 - Mary Cassatt Disappoints Her Rich Dad ep 32 w/ Zack Hammond.
Mary Cassatt, babies, breastfeeding, Paris, Pennsylvania, rich people, and a group of comedians trying to figure out what the hell is happening in these paintings.
This week on We Like Art, Tommy Mavra and Manny dive into the life and artwork of Mary Cassatt — the American-born artist who spent much of her career in France and became known for her paintings of women, mothers, and children.
With comedian Zack Hammond joining the show, we talk about Cassatt's childhood, her family, growing up in Pennsylvania, becoming an artist in a time when that wasn't exactly encouraged for women, and her decision to leave America and move to Paris.
We talk about Cassatt's struggles as an artist, her time in Paris, the difficulty of selling her work in America, the Great Chicago Fire and the paintings she lost, wealthy families and the expectations placed on women, and the challenges women faced trying to build careers in the art world.
This is Mary Cassatt explained the We Like Art way — part art history, part comedy podcast, and part three people staring at famous paintings while confidently getting things wrong.
If you like Mary Cassatt, Impressionism, art history, famous paintings, women's art history, American artists, French art, 19th-century art, museums, comedy podcasts, stand-up comedy, or watching comedians try to understand famous artwork, you're in the right place.

1h 11m - Oct 7, 2026 - Eugène Delacroix: Boobs, Death & Revolution | We Like Art ep 32 w/ Hesam Torr
Eugène Delacroix, French Romanticism, the French Revolution, Iran, Persia, Farsi, the Ayatollah, Napoleon, Lord Byron, and one very famous painting where everybody is apparently staring at the same thing.
This week on We Like Art, Tommy Mavra and Manny dive into the art and life of Eugène Delacroix, one of the most important painters of the French Romantic movement. With Hesam Torr joining the conversation, we explore Delacroix, his paintings, French history, revolution, and the surprisingly wide-ranging connections that take the conversation from 19th-century France to Iran, Persia, Farsi, and the Ayatollah.
We take a look at Delacroix's famous paintings, including The Death of Sardanapalus and Liberty Leading the People, while attempting to figure out what is actually happening in these paintings before the art history lesson inevitably goes off the rails.
Along the way, the conversation gets into Persian and Iranian history and culture, what it means to speak Farsi, Iran's modern political history, the Ayatollah, and Hassan's perspective on Iran and growing up Iranian. The result is part art history podcast, part comedy podcast, part completely unexpected trip through French and Persian history.
We also talk about Delacroix's childhood, his family, his connections to French politics and royalty, Lord Byron's influence on his work, Napoleon, the French Revolution, the July Revolution, and the story behind Liberty Leading the People.
And because this is We Like Art, we spend a suspicious amount of time discussing nipples, bad French fashion, One Piece, the Statue of Liberty, revolutionaries, French history, Persian history, and whether anyone on the battlefield actually knows what they're doing.
If you like art history, famous paintings, Eugène Delacroix, French Romanticism, French history, Iranian history, Persian culture, Farsi, Iran, Napoleon, Lord Byron, comedy podcasts, stand-up comedy, weird historical facts, or watching comedians try to understand paintings, you're in the right place.

1h 13m - Sep 30, 2026 - Donatello Entitled, Lazy, Son of a She Donkey ep 31 with Greg Williams Jr
Donatello, Renaissance sculpture, Judith, Holofernes, David, Goliath, the Medici, and a whole lot of terrible art history guesses.
This week on We Like Art, Tommy Mavra and Manny dive into the world of Donatello — one of the major artists of the Italian Renaissance — with comedian Greg Williams Jr. joining the chaos.
What starts as a serious attempt to learn about Renaissance art quickly turns into a comedy breakdown of Donatello's sculptures, biblical stories, Renaissance nudity, bronze statues, David and Goliath, Judith and Holofernes, the Medici family, Michelangelo, and the eternal question: why did Renaissance artists keep making so many naked dudes? And Who was the Kanye West of the Renaissance?
We look at Donatello's artwork and try to figure out what we're actually looking at before the history lesson catches up with us. Along the way, we compare Donatello's David to Michelangelo's famous David, talk about the first freestanding nude statue produced since antiquity, and discover just how much chaos can be found in Renaissance art history.
If you like art history, Renaissance art, funny podcasts, stand-up comedy, weird historical facts, museum conversations, or watching comedians attempt to understand famous works of art, you're in the right place.
This is We Like Art — the comedy podcast about art history where we look at famous artwork, ask dumb questions, learn something occasionally, and try very hard to like art.

1h 17m - Sep 23, 2026 - Michelangelo: Art, Beef & Questionable Life Choices ep 30 W/Tony from Hack the Movies
Michelangelo is one of the most famous artists in history — but what happens when you put his greatest works in front of three comedians who know just enough about art to be dangerous?
In this episode of **We Like Art**, Tommy, Manny, and special guest **Tony from Hack the Movies** take a completely unqualified journey through the life and work of **Michelangelo**, one of the defining artists of the Italian Renaissance.
We talk about Michelangelo's early life, his connection to marble, his rivalry with Raphael, and some of his most famous masterpieces, including **Madonna of the Stairs, the Pietà, David, the Sistine Chapel, and The Last Judgment**. Along the way, we attempt to understand Renaissance art, Biblical imagery, artistic anatomy, and why Michelangelo apparently couldn't stop putting extremely muscular people everywhere.
Naturally, things get increasingly ridiculous.
If you love **art history, Renaissance art, Michelangelo, famous paintings and sculptures, comedy podcasts, movie discussions, or watching people confidently get things wrong**, this one's for you.
🎨 **Featuring:** Tony from Hack the Movies
🎬 **We Like Art** — where we look at great art, ask tough questions, and learn... occasionally.
