Great Gurneet (Recorded September 2020)
On the eighteenth episode of the P.O.T.N👑. Podcast, Takura was joined by Gurneet who is an enthusiastic, hardworking, and focused individual. In his episode, he shares his passion for coding, staying active through sports like martial arts and his tenacious desire to always learn new skills. He shares his journey of studying for an aerospace engineering degree and then venturing into software engineering. Where he has now become a well-rounded software engineer who also relocated to Switzerland in 2020. Gurneet talks us through overcoming challenges such as moving to a new country, adapting to the culture, and learning Swiss-German. He goes on to tell us how he effectively kept himself active and productive during that period. He would like to express his sincere gratitude toward his mentor Richard an Autodidact Software Engineer who has taught him an abundant number of valuable programming and life lessons. Gurneet informs us how important it is to embrace failure whenever it happens as it is critical to our growth and helps to build our characters. In addition to that, he also states that when faced with challenges it’s important for us to mentally prepare ourselves to overcome them. For example, whenever he is faced with adversity, he utilises a three-step approach that aids him in overcoming whatever it is. He firstly reflects on what has occurred. Then he plans and takes action to address the situation and finally, he does not dwell on the failures and shifts his focus onto the next thing that needs to be done. He then breaks down the importance of all of us investing in our health. He also advises us that whenever faced with stress we must detach from the situation go outside and embrace the full beauty of nature. As well as learn new activities that can improve our focus and coordination like Juggling. Going forward Gurneet hopes to one day mentor the junior programmers of tomorrow and guide them in the right direction by passing on an abundance of knowledge and experience he has gained. In addition to that, he is also excited at the prospect of learning new innovative technology skills which will improve his capabilities as a software engineer, as well as learn how to ride a Cruiser motorbike. In his closing remarks Gurneet shares with us that for all of us to improve we have to change and become better individuals, he mentions that we must accept our flaws and create action plans on how we can work on the areas that need improvement. Finally, he urges listeners to prioritise their happiness and wellbeing before anything else and that we should work towards doing things that make us happy. An insightful and exciting testimony that encompasses all the values of P.O.T.N👑.
