📌The Minneapolis City Council is hearing feedback on a proposed ordinance to require a "human monitor" earning minimum wage behind the wheel of autonomous vehicles. Council members think this will prevent local rideshare drivers from losing their jobs to companies like Waymo.
📌 St. Petersburg, Florida city council members voted unanimously to explore bringing autonomous food delivery robots to areas with heavy restaurant concentration. While some bar owners believe it will bring extra business, local food delivery workers are calling the robots an attack on their collective livelihoods.
📌 A 28-year-old DoorDash worker was shot by ICE during a law enforcement operation in Austin, Texas. The Department of Homeland Security stated the individual was from Venezuela, entered the country illegally, and had a final order of removal.
📌 A 50-year-old Uber driver was arrested and released on bond after being accused of sexually assaulting a 21-year-old female passenger near Cal State San Marcos. Uber confirmed the driver was removed from the platform as soon as the incident was reported.
📌Texas has officially started flying taxi testing under a program called Project Nexus. Joby Aviation is running a campaign testing electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft in controlled airspaces, including DFW International Airport.

Earla has participated in lobbying, policy discussions, media engagement, and grassroots organizing at municipal, provincial, and federal levels. In 2024, she received the Voices for Fairness Award from the Drivers Union in Seattle, becoming the first Canadian recipient.

In This Episode:Mass Surveillance Uncovered: Flock Safety planned to partner with Nexar to turn 350,000 Uber and Lyft cars into a rolling surveillance network. Although the proposed partnership didn't materialize, Flock intended to use existing rideshare and delivery cars as devices to collect license plate data. Miami Self-Defense: A 28-year-old delivery driver in Miami Gardens shot an armed robber in self-defense after being robbed at gunpoint. The second suspect, 18-year-old Jabari Joshua Thomas, was arrested and faces second-degree felony murder and armed robbery charges. Road Rage in NC: A North Carolina DoorDash driver named Christen Phillips was severely beaten with a baseball bat after honking at a vehicle that wouldn't move at a green light. Deputies are currently searching for a suspect in his late 30s or early 40s who drives a dark Range Rover with silver alloy rims. Albuquerque Standoff: A delivery driver had a handgun pointed and actually fired at him by an apartment resident. The suspect barricaded himself inside, ultimately leading SWAT to take over the situation.

Tesla Cybercab Goes Solo in FL: Tesla rolled out its Robotaxi service in West Miami. This marks their fifth city launch, and for the first time, the cars are running without a safety monitor on board.
Tesla for the Blind?: Elon Musk stated that Robotaxis must meet the needs of the blind. Promotional materials at the National Federation of the Blind's convention showcased Braille labels on hazard buttons and interior door releases.
No More Brake Pedals?: The NHTSA is planning to remove the brake pedal requirement on autonomous vehicles by changing FMVSS No. 135.
Severe Driver Safety Alerts: We cover two horrific incidents, including a Delaware Lyft driver who was carjacked at gunpoint and robbed of his vehicle by three masked suspects. We also discuss a Kenosha man facing felony charges for sexually assaulting his Lyft driver during a ride to work.
WTF is the Fong-Gillen Amendment?: Amendment FONG_041 aims to protect network companies like Uber and Lyft from vicarious liability under state or local laws. If passed, plaintiffs would have to prove gross negligence rather than standard negligence. This protection would broadly apply to passenger ridesharing giants and delivery apps like DoorDash, UberEats, and Instacart.
Wisk Aero Whistleblower Lawsuit: A former employee is suing the Boeing-backed eVTOL startup. The lawsuit claims the whistleblower was fired after reporting that the autonomous air taxi software bypassed basic aviation software testing requirements.
Joby & Toyota Joint Venture: Toyota will conduct 51% of the manufacturing for the S4 Air Taxi. This agreement gives Toyota exclusive rights to build the S4 and ties a $250 million investment to certification and production targets.
