- Can We Just Be Real About Some Things? Sit Back & Lets Chop It Up! (TMC#223)
Welcome back to Talk My Credo Podcast EP223!
This week, we’re getting into one of those relationship debates that NEVER seems to go away:
Can men and women genuinely be just friends?
And maybe the better question is:
What happens to those friendships once somebody gets into a serious relationship?
The crew debates friendship boundaries, jealousy, emotional intimacy, loyalty, and whether you can become too close to another person while expecting your partner to simply accept it.
Does being in a relationship mean certain friendships have to change?
When does a close friendship become disrespectful to your partner?
Are men actually more jealous than women?
And how much should your partner be allowed to influence who you keep around you?
We put those questions to the test with several What Would You Do? scenarios, forcing the crew to decide where they personally draw the line.
Then, after The Shenanigan Report, the episode takes a major turn into a passionate conversation about Black liberation.
We discuss politics, community power, what Black Americans may need to rebuild, and whether liberation requires returning to principles and institutions that have been lost along the way.
From relationships to liberation, this one covers A LOT.
In this episode:

Talk My Credo Podcast EP222
Welcome back to another episode of the Talk My Credo Podcast!
This week, we continue our conversation about emotional survival in Black spaces—but this time, things get much more personal.
After exploring the broader idea of resilience in our previous episode, the crew now asks:
How have these survival behaviors actually shown up in our own lives?
Donte opens up about how the last conversation affected him personally, and the crew breaks down the different ways we learn to manage stress, pain, disappointment, responsibility, and emotional pressure.
We talk about compartmentalization, coping mechanisms, emotional suppression, and the pressure to keep functioning even when something inside us is clearly not okay.
Sometimes survival means pushing through.
But what happens when “pushing through” becomes your default response to everything?
At what point does strength become avoidance?
And how do we learn to process what we’ve survived instead of simply carrying it?
Later, The Shenanigan Report takes us through another wild collection of stories involving a man pretending to be an NFL player to scam women, controversy surrounding a Target costume, the Minnesota “Spider-Man” story, Tuskegee University continuing to defend its bonnet policy, and Jaylen Brown discussing racism within business and professional sports.
We also take a moment to acknowledge Dolly Parton and, as always, close things out with plenty of laughs and classic Talk My Credo energy.

Welcome back to another episode of the Talk My Credo Podcast!
Black resilience is often celebrated—and for good reason.
But this week, we're asking a more uncomfortable question:
What happens when the behaviors that helped us survive begin making it harder for us to heal?
The crew dives into emotional survival in Black spaces, examining the coping mechanisms, attitudes, and protective behaviors many of us learn while navigating stress, racism, expectations, family dynamics, and everyday life.
We discuss the pressure behind the “Strong Black Man” and “Strong Black Woman” identities, emotional compartmentalization, humor as a coping mechanism, hyper-awareness, and the complicated relationship between being informed and constantly feeling like you have to remain “woke.”
These behaviors can protect us.
But can they also exhaust us?
Can strength become an inability to ask for help?
Can awareness become hypervigilance?
Can emotional toughness make vulnerability feel dangerous?
The goal isn't to criticize Black resilience. It's to examine whether some survival strategies should evolve as our circumstances, opportunities, and understanding of emotional health evolve with them.
Later, The Shenanigan Report takes us through another wild collection of stories involving the death of Sonya Massey’s convicted killer, developments involving Karmelo Anthony, cultural appropriation, racist imagery and rhetoric, Master P’s comments about continuing to discuss slavery, and plenty of classic TMC foolishness along the way.
In this episode:

Welcome back to another episode of the Talk My Credo Podcast!
This week, the crew reacts to the controversy surrounding Earn Your Leisure’s Rashad Bilal and comments expressing frustration with the Black community.
But the conversation quickly becomes much bigger than one person.
What happens when Black creators, entertainers, entrepreneurs, and public figures begin to “cross over”?
Is expanding beyond a predominantly Black audience simply growth—or can that transition sometimes become a rejection of the very community that helped build the platform?
The crew digs into the difference between evolution and erasure, asking whether success requires changing who you are, softening your identity, or distancing yourself from Black audiences in pursuit of greater mainstream acceptance.
We also discuss authenticity, knowing when change is necessary, and whether adapting your presentation means compromising yourself—or simply growing.
Later, The Shenanigan Report brings plenty of laughs and debate as we discuss Lionel Richie’s comments involving Chris Brown and Usher, backlash against a school principal for setting standards, Donald Trump being Donald Trump, first-date questions, and one of Dee’s funniest stories yet.

Last week, we asked whether Black institutions and communities can establish standards without falling into respectability politics.
Apparently… y’all had A LOT to say.
After our discussion surrounding Tuskegee University, bonnets, durags, community accountability, and Black standards, the backlash came quickly—and this week, the TMC crew is addressing it head-on.
When does encouraging higher standards become policing Blackness?
Can we criticize behaviors within our own community without being labeled anti-Black?
Does every conversation about professionalism automatically center the “white gaze,” or is there room for Black people to establish expectations for ourselves on our own terms?
And maybe the biggest question:
Have we reached a point where accountability itself is being treated as disrespect?
The crew responds to the criticism, clarifies where we stand, and digs even deeper into the uncomfortable tension between community standards, cultural identity, respectability politics, and self-determination.
Before things get heated, we kick off the episode with some classic TMC shenanigans, including predictions for Donell Jones vs. Joe, thoughts on Jonathan Majors’ career trajectory, and more.
Later, The Shenanigan Report leads us into another heartbreaking conversation surrounding Black safety, violence, and the lessons we continue being forced to learn.

Welcome back to Talk My Credo Podcast EP218!
This week, the crew tackles the controversy surrounding Tuskegee University’s restrictions on bonnets and durags—and the much larger debate hiding underneath it:
Is this community accountability, or is it respectability politics?
Should historically Black institutions establish standards for how students present themselves, or do these policies unfairly police Black expression and place too much emphasis on gaining outside approval?
The crew examines the difference between encouraging excellence and reinforcing respectability politics, the exhaustion many Black Americans feel from constant criticism, and whether some conversations about “protecting Black culture” remain too centered on white acceptance.
We also explore enclothed cognition—the psychological idea that what we wear can influence how we think, behave, and perceive ourselves. Can dress standards positively shape an academic environment, or does that argument ignore the cultural meaning behind certain styles?
After responding to Tuskegee University’s explanation and the public backlash, the crew moves into The Shenanigan Report to discuss racist criticism directed at Lupita over her portrayal of Helen of Troy, debates over race-conscious casting, the controversy surrounding Children of Blood and Bone, the future of Black Panther, and whether Black celebrities should be expected to guide the community.

Welcome back to Talk My Credo Podcast EP217!
This week, the crew tackles a difficult but necessary question:
What is the difference between Black culture and “ghetto” culture—and have we made the mistake of treating them as the same thing?
The conversation begins with each member defining what the word “ghetto” means to them before examining the traditions, values, creativity, history, and shared experiences that make up Black culture.
Are destructive behaviors sometimes defended simply because they exist within parts of the Black community? Does criticizing those behaviors unfairly attack Black people—or can honest criticism help protect and strengthen the culture?
The crew debates whether struggle has become confused with identity, whether stereotypes are being reinforced from within and outside the community, and how we can separate authentic Black culture from behaviors that should not define an entire people.
After the main discussion, the crew returns with The Shenanigan Report, covering the LeBron James-to-Philadelphia conversation, a heated Panthers versus Cowboys debate, Donald Trump’s latest antics, a review of Kevin Hart’s 72 Hours, Dee’s new tattoo, and plenty of classic Talk My Credo foolishness.

This week, the crew moves from hilarious internet stories into a much deeper conversation about money, family, ownership, and Black liberation.
We react to Jay-Z’s major New York performance, discuss his evolution from rapper to businessman, and examine what his success represents for the Black community. Does creating individual wealth translate into collective power—or have we confused Black capitalism with Black liberation?
The conversation becomes even more personal as the crew breaks down a family conflict involving infidelity and money. Donte shares his own experience with financial disputes within a family, opening an honest discussion about loyalty, entitlement, boundaries, and how money can expose unresolved problems.
We also address Memphis Bleek’s controversial perspective, the difference between supporting successful Black individuals and building sustainable Black institutions, and what real economic progress should look like for our communities.
