Have you ever done everything you thought God wanted you to do—only to watch your life fall completely apart?
For Michael Jerome, that moment came while he was deeply involved in church ministry. He was serving, leading, studying the Bible, helping others, and showing up every week. But behind the scenes, his marriage was quietly falling apart.
In this deeply personal episode of The Biblical Film Room, Michael takes you inside the “film room” of his own life to explain why this podcast exists and how one of the most painful seasons of his life ultimately transformed the way he understands faith, identity, relationships, healing, and biblical counseling.
From the outside, Michael appeared committed, successful, and active in ministry. But at home, he was struggling with insecurity, unhealthy conflict, control, pornography, fear, and a marriage he didn’t know how to navigate. Ministry had become part of his identity, while the deeper issues in his life remained unresolved.
When his marriage eventually ended, Michael entered a major faith crisis. After decades of Christianity, he found himself questioning what he believed, who he could trust, and why years of serving God had not produced lasting transformation in his personal life.
Then came six months that changed everything.
Living alone in a small apartment with little money, no television, no internet, and limited support, Michael found himself with three constants: his Bible, solitude, and a chess set he used while spending time with his son. That season forced him to confront his pain, his identity, and his relationship with God in a completely different way.
He began to realize a truth that would reshape his life:
Your worth and value do not come from what you do. They come from who you are as your Creator defines you.
Michael discovered that being with God is infinitely more important than simply doing things for God. Christian activity, ministry involvement, and biblical knowledge can look impressive from the outside while deeper emotional and spiritual transformation remains unfinished.
That journey eventually led Michael toward recovery, mind renewal, biblical counseling, and the creation of A Space of Grace Counseling. His desire was simple: to become the kind of person he needed when his own life and marriage were falling apart—and to create a place where people could tell their stories with dignity, honesty, grace, and respect.
It also became the foundation for The Biblical Film Room.
Just as athletes review film to identify mistakes, patterns, and opportunities to improve, we all replay the “film” of our lives. We revisit conversations, failed relationships, family wounds, church hurt, anxiety, anger, loneliness, shame, and the moments we wish had gone differently.
But the question is not whether we review the film.
The question is: what lens are we using?
In The Biblical Film Room, Michael explores marriage, relationships, family, suffering, shame, dating, church hurt, culture, spiritual growth, and emotional healing—then compares what we see against the truth of Scripture.
If you’ve experienced church hurt, marriage struggles, religious trauma, a faith crisis, shame, relationship pain, spiritual confusion, or difficulty understanding your identity in Christ, this conversation is an invitation to examine your story honestly without allowing your failures to define you.
Healing doesn’t begin by ignoring the tape.
Healing begins when we’re willing to watch it honestly.

S4E5 - 37m - Aug 4, 2026 - The Lies We Tell While Waiting: Rewriting Your Singleness Story
Have you noticed the longest conversations you have each day are the ones with yourself? This episode of The Biblical Film Room examines four common lies singles tell themselves—"something's wrong with me," "I've missed my chance," "everyone else is ahead," and "God is punishing me"—and contrasts them with Scripture. Michael Jerome encourages singles (especially those 40+) to replace fear and comparison with biblical truth, offers practical exercises, and closes with a coach's challenge to identify one recurring thought and counter it with a Scripture.
S1E1 - 25m - Jul 28, 2026 - Ready to Love? 4 Relationship Skills You Won’t Learn by Accident
Michael Jerome explains why healthy relationships require intentional growth, not just finding the right person. He breaks down four core skills—listening before defending, managing conflict with repair attempts, emotional regulation, and healthy boundaries—and shows how Christlike character sustains love beyond chemistry.
The episode includes practical takeaways like premarital counseling, daily spiritual preparation, and a coach’s challenge to practice one relational skill this week, urging listeners to become the kind of person who can love well.
S4E3 - 20m - Jul 22, 2026 - Why Being Single Feels Harder Than Ever — Loneliness, Belonging & Biblical Hope
Being single in modern culture often brings amplified loneliness—isolated living, friendlessness, technology replacing face-to-face connection, and endless dating app choices have made belonging harder than before.
In this episode Michael Jerome examines the biblical basis for companionship, acknowledges the real pain of singleness, and challenges the church to create intentional, intergenerational community where singles are seen and discipled, not merely positioned to wait for marriage.
Practical takeaways include recognizing longing as part of God’s good design, countering lies with Scripture, taking one intentional step toward connection this week, and trusting God’s care whether or not marriage comes.
S4E2 - 24m - Jul 14, 2026 - Finding Purpose in Seasons You Never Wanted
In this episode Michael Jerome explores how God can use pain and suffering to shape, prepare, and redeem our lives. Using biblical examples—Joseph, David, and Paul—he shows how painful seasons can produce compassion, dependence, resilience, maturity, and ministry.
Listeners are encouraged to move from asking "Why?" to asking "What are you forming in me?" as they seek purpose and hope amid hardship.
S4E1 - 20m - Jul 7, 2026 - Flags or Faith? Reclaiming True Freedom This 4th of July
This episode examines what kind of freedom we celebrate on the 4th of July — political liberty or the deeper, spiritual freedom Christ offers — and asks what happens when loyalty to a nation competes with loyalty to God’s kingdom.
Michael Jerome reflects on America’s 250-year history, the rise of Christian nationalism, the lessons of January 6, and calls the church to faithful discipleship that represents Christ rather than a political movement.
S3E17 - 26m - Jun 30, 2026 - When Pride Meets Scripture: Can You Love Without Affirming?
June is Pride Month, and for many devout followers of Jesus, it creates a tension between loving people and affirming beliefs that conflict with Scripture. In this episode of the Biblical Film Room, Michael Jerome explores the history of Pride, including the Stonewall Uprising, explains why Christians may hesitate to celebrate Pride Month, and presents a call to engage with compassion while holding to biblical truth. He discusses key scriptures about love, highlights examples where religious liberty feels challenged, and closes by affirming the dignity of every person while urging faithfulness to God's design.
S3E16 - 23m - Jun 23, 2026 - Juneteenth Through The Lens Of Scripture: Celebrating Freedom or Practicing It?
What if freedom is more than a holiday? In this episode Michael Jerome examines Juneteenth through Scripture, asking whether legal emancipation has translated into spiritual, cultural, and familial freedom.
Using Galatians and other biblical texts, he contrasts freedom from bondage with freedom for service, highlights modern community struggles—fatherlessness, poverty, and broken families—and calls churches and individuals to pursue restoration, responsibility, and daily practice of gospel freedom.
S3E15 - 18m - Jun 16, 2026 - Who Are You Without Performance?
This episode explores the "achievement trap" — how tying identity to performance breeds perfectionism, anxiety, and emptiness — and asks the central question: who are you if everything you used to prove your worth disappears? Using sports examples like Michael Phelps and biblical moments such as Jesus’ baptism and foot-washing, the host contrasts earning worth with living from the identity God already gives.
Listeners are encouraged to root their worth in Christ, replace striving with humble service, and practice daily "film study" (Bible study) to remember they are loved, accepted, and secure regardless of accomplishments. The episode closes with a challenge: if applause and titles faded, would you still believe you are valuable?
S3E14 - 24m - Jun 9, 2026 - Playing Hurt: The Cost of Hiding PainMichael Jerome unpacks the cost of hiding the struggles of the Christian life and uses the example of Hall of Fame pro football player Earl Campbell of getting help during times of need.30m - Jun 2, 2026
- From Stigma to Sanctuary: How Church Can Heal Mental Health
In this closing episode of the series on faith, mental health, and shame, Michael Jerome explores how the church can move from stigma to support by becoming a safe, compassionate place for those suffering silently. Using the Good Samaritan as a model, he calls churches to see, stop, and invest resources in faith-based counseling, follow-up care, and practical community support.
The episode offers concrete steps—awareness, listening, training, and resourcing—to help believers and church leaders create environments where people are heard, not judged, and where healing happens together.
S3E12 - 23m - May 26, 2026 - God, My Anxious Thoughts, and the Inner Battle
In this unscripted episode of the Biblical Film Room, Michael Jerome explores anxious thoughts and the inner battle through Psalm 42–43 and the story of NFL player Ernest Byner, illustrating how even devoted believers struggle and can bring their fears to God.
Listeners are encouraged to voice their anxieties, remember God’s faithfulness, seek support, and find hope in praise; the next episode will address how the body of Christ can move from stigma to support.
S3E11 - 24m - May 20, 2026 - Pressure to Perform: From Martha's Kitchen to Modern Lives
In this episode of the Biblical Film Room, Michael Jerome explores the pressure to perform through biblical stories like Martha and Mary and modern examples such as Simone Biles. He traces the roots of performance anxiety to family dynamics and insecure attachment, shows how it appears as people-pleasing and comparison, and offers spiritual practices—film study of Scripture, prayer, and seeking help—to find freedom and rest in Christ.
S3E10 - 28m - May 12, 2026 - Breaking the Silence: When Strong Saints Want to Quit
Host Michael Jerome explores how even the strongest biblical figures—like Elijah—face exhaustion, fear, and loneliness, and how God meets them with compassion. This episode opens a four-part series on mental health in the church, challenging stigma, encouraging honest conversation, and showing practical ways the body of Christ can offer presence and care.
Through Scripture, real-life examples, and pastoral counsel, the episode invites listeners to name their struggle, seek community and professional help when needed, and remember that feeling overwhelmed doesn’t disqualify you from God’s care.
S3E9 - 27m - May 5, 2026 - Made New: Living Free from Shame
What if God didn’t just forgive you, but made you new? In this final episode of The Voice of Shame, Michael Jerome explains how shame keeps us trapped in old identities and gives three practical steps to live free: renew your mind daily with Scripture, speak your God-given identity out loud, and build new habits that reflect who you are in Christ.
Stop carrying labels you were never given, replace lies with truth, and practice your freedom day by day—because you are chosen, forgiven, and free.
S3E8 - 23m - Apr 28, 2026 - Shame Dies in the Light: Healing Through Confession
This episode explores how shame loses its power when it is named and brought into the light. Using biblical texts (James 5:16, 1 John 1:9, Proverbs 28:13) and real-life examples, the host explains why people hide their struggles and how specific confession to God and a trusted person leads to healing.
Expect practical steps for getting specific in confession, overcoming fear of judgment and rejection, and moving from forgiveness to true healing and a renewed identity in Christ.
S3E7 - 23m - Apr 22, 2026 - The Voice of Shame: Exposing the Accuser
Michael Jerome examines the voice of shame—the accuser that distorts identity—and contrasts it with Holy Spirit conviction.
Using Scripture, personal stories, and practical steps, he shows how to identify, label, and combat shame with truth so listeners can walk in freedom and purpose.
S3E6 - 25m - Apr 14, 2026 - The First Whisper: Where Shame Began
In this episode of the Biblical Film Room we trace the origin of shame back to Genesis—when Adam and Eve were naked and unashamed, the serpent’s whisper introduced doubt, and sin birthed a voice that makes us hide and cover. The host explains how shame differs from guilt, how it often starts in our family of origin, and how it hijacks our identity and relationships.
Practical steps are offered to begin taming shame: name where you’re hiding, confess to God and trusted people, separate guilt from shame, and allow exposure and healing to replace hiding. The episode emphasizes that God pursues us with love and that shame can be overcome through transparency and renewal of the mind.
