- Stop Comparing Your Podcast to Other Podcasters | with Terryl Humphrey | Ep #453
If you're wondering how to stop comparing your podcast to other podcasters, one thing you have to understand is that everybody is on a different journey. Someone else's equipment, studio, confidence, or experience doesn't mean your podcast isn't working.
I've caught myself doing this.
I would get around podcasters who had been doing this longer than me and start looking at their equipment, their studios, and how good they sounded.
Eventually, I realized I wasn't necessarily doubting my podcast.
I was comparing my podcast.
In this episode, I talk about what changed when I stopped looking at other podcasters as competition and started looking at them as people I could learn from.
After producing 893 podcast episodes, I've had a lot of practice. I've made mistakes. I've changed equipment. I've asked questions. I've learned from other people. I've had recordings where things went wrong and I had to figure out what happened.
That's part of the journey.
In this episode, I talk about:
• Why you shouldn't compare your podcast to someone else's
• Why podcasting takes time to develop
• Why more reps can help you improve
• Why you don't need expensive equipment before you start
If you're early in your podcast journey, don't look at somebody who has been podcasting for years and assume you're supposed to be where they are.
Look at where you are today.
Learn.
Apply it.
Get your reps.
Then keep going.

E453 - 27m - Sep 1, 2026 - What Is Your Podcast Audience Struggling With | with Terryl Humphrey | Ep #453
If you have a podcast, how do you know what your audience actually needs from you?
In this episode, I talk about the importance of listening to your podcast audience and paying attention to their questions, struggles, hesitation, and feedback.
I recently taught an in person podcast workshop, and instead of only giving people information about podcasting, we helped them actually apply what they learned and record.
That experience gave me a different perspective on how people learn and what can hold someone back from launching their podcast.
Your audience can tell you a lot about what they need, but you have to listen, ask better questions, process the feedback, and determine what makes sense to apply.
We also talk about why podcasting can be simple without being easy, starting with the equipment you already have, and determining the outcome you want your podcast to create.

E453 - 27m - Aug 31, 2026 - The THREE Challenges of Podcasting | with Terryl Humphrey | Ep # 452
Starting a podcast can feel difficult when you are thinking about equipment, studios, what to say, and whether you are ready.
In this episode, I talk about three challenges I continue seeing with business owners who want to launch a podcast.
We talk about procrastination, overthinking, being afraid to fail publicly, and why you have to be willing to start before everything is perfect.
I also share something I recently learned about my own business.
After talking with customers, testing different messages, and having a conversation with one of my professors, I realized something that had been right in front of me.
We Bring the Podcast Production to You.
You sit down and share your expertise. We handle the recording, editing, production, and publishing.
In this episode, you'll learn:
• Why people wait months or even years to launch
• How overthinking can create procrastination
• Why equipment is not the most important part
• Why being comfortable learning publicly matters

E452 - 28m - Aug 30, 2026 - Why One Podcast Episode Is Not Enough | with Terryl Humphrey | Ep #451
If you are wondering how many podcast episodes you should record, understand that one episode is only the starting point.
The more you record, the more opportunities you have to improve, build trust, and give people something to discover.
In this episode, I talk about why I continue to focus on the next podcast episode instead of expecting one episode to create all the results.
When I started podcasting in August 2021, I started with an iPhone 7 and a tripod.
Over time, I kept recording, learning, changing my setup, and getting more comfortable.
After producing 893 podcast episodes, one thing I continue to see is that you never know when somebody is going to discover your content.
People may not comment.
They may not like the video.
They may not tell you they listened.
That does not automatically mean nobody is listening.
In this episode, I talk about:
• Why one podcast episode is not enough
• Why you should focus on your next episode
• How podcasting helps build trust
• Why you should not expect instant results

E451 - 28m - Aug 29, 2026 - Why Starting a Business Is So Challenging | with Terryl Humphrey | Ep # 450
How do you identify the problem your business solves? For me, figuring that out took years of trying different things, asking questions, learning business, talking to mentors, and paying attention to what people actually came to me for.
In this episode, I talk about why business can be so challenging when you're trying to figure everything out at the same time.
-Sales.
-Marketing.
-Finance.
-Legal.
-Operations.
-Team development.
-Your own development.
There are a lot of moving pieces.
I started my first business with a car wash. I bought 100 business cards and started telling people what I was doing before I completely knew what I was doing.
That forced me to actually go try.
Over time, I tried advertising, social media management, videography, photography, and podcasting.
Eventually something started becoming clearer.
People kept reaching out to me about podcasting.
After producing more than 893 podcast episodes and helping 37 entrepreneurs launch their podcasts, I started recognizing the problem Failure Is Knowledge actually solves.
There are business owners who want to launch a podcast but procrastinate because they don't know what equipment to use, how to record, what to say, how to edit, or how to publish.
That helped me understand my market differently.
In this episode, I talk about:
• Why there is always another challenge in business
• Why you have to give yourself time to learn
• How taking action teaches you what research cannot
• How I started my first car wash business
One of the biggest things I'm learning is that having knowledge is not enough.
You have to apply it.

E450 - 27m - Aug 28, 2026 - You Recorded Your First Podcast. Now What? | with Terryl Humphrey | Ep #449
You recorded your first podcast. Now what?
In this episode, I break down what happens after you record your first podcast and how to take the video and audio sitting on your camera, SD card, phone, or computer and turn it into something people can actually watch, listen to, discover, and learn from.
After producing over 893 podcast episodes, one thing I’ve learned is that a lot happens after you turn the cameras off.
In this episode, I talk about:
• Making sure your recording actually saved
• Organizing your audio and video files
• What you should actually edit
• Why your podcast does not have to sound perfect
Recording your first podcast is not the finish line. It is really the beginning of the process.

E449 - 18m - Aug 27, 2026 - The Biggest Lessons I Learned From Podcasting | with Terryl Humphrey | Ep #448
If you're wondering what you can learn from starting a podcast, there is more to podcasting than recording episodes and talking into a camera.
In this episode of the Failure Is Knowledge Podcast, I share three of the biggest lessons podcasting has taught me: establish a goal, get educated, and give yourself grace.
When I started podcasting while serving in the Marine Corps, I didn't have everything figured out. I started with my phone and a small tripod. The tripod wasn't even tall enough, so I put three books underneath it.
But I had a goal.
Over time, I realized podcasting was helping me work toward something bigger.
In this episode, I talk about:
• Why you need a goal before worrying about everything else
• Why podcasting is more than talking to a camera
• Why education doesn't always mean going back to college
This episode is for entrepreneurs and business owners who are thinking about starting a podcast but feel like they still have too much to figure out.
You don't have to know everything when you start.
You have to be willing to learn.

E447 - 40m - Aug 25, 2026 - How Can a Podcast Help Your Business? | with Terryl Humphrey | Ep # 446
If you’re wondering how a podcast can help your business, it can give you a platform to build trust, start relationships, create valuable content, and give people a way to learn more about you.
In this episode of the Failure Is Knowledge Podcast, I talk about why I believe your podcast is more valuable than you may realize.
Over the last half a decade, we’ve produced over 893 podcast episodes while helping 30 entrepreneurs launch their podcast in a short span of time.
One of the biggest things I’ve learned is that podcasting is not just about recording content.
Your podcast gives people space to share their story.
It gives you an opportunity to listen.
It gives you an opportunity to learn.
And it gives you a way to start relationships with people you may not have connected with otherwise.
In this episode, I break down three things:
Why you should lead with value
Why you have to develop your platform
Why you have to put time into your podcast
I also share how podcasting has helped me connect with entrepreneurs, executives, CEOs, athletes, business owners, and other leaders over the years.
Your podcast can become a way for people to research you, listen to you, understand what you do, and learn more about your business.
The media you create today can also continue introducing you to people later.
That is why I said during this episode:
“Media never dies.”
If you’re a business owner thinking about starting a podcast, do not only look at the podcast as another piece of content you have to create.
Think about the platform you are building.
Think about the relationships you can establish.
Think about the trust you can build.
And think about the value you can create.

E446 - 39m - Aug 24, 2026 - Why Your Podcast Needs a Customer Journey | with Terryl Humphrey | Ep #445
If you are trying to figure out how to use a podcast to build trust, one of the biggest things to understand is that podcasting is not only about recording content. You also have to think about the experience you are creating for the people you want to reach.
In this episode of the Failure Is Knowledge Podcast, I talk about why your customer’s journey is so important and how I started applying this to our own podcast production process.
I break down three things:
How to create your customer’s path
Why you should go through your own process
How to identify what makes you different
I also share what happened when we tested our live podcast experience at a vendor event.
Before the event, I practiced the process. I put the equipment up. I took it down. I timed myself. I looked at what the customer would see. I kept asking what was working, what was not working, and what could be improved.
Then we tested it with real people.
Seven entrepreneurs experienced the podcast activation and five paid.
That experience helped me understand that the focus could not only be on what we wanted to sell.
The focus had to be on the customer.
Podcasting can also help people learn about you before they ever have a conversation with you. They can hear your story, understand your business, and start building trust with you.
If you are a business owner thinking about using podcasting to become more visible, build trust, and share your story, this episode will help you think differently about the experience you are creating.

E445 - 44m - Aug 23, 2026 - Follow Up Is More Important Than I Thought | with Terryl Humphrey | Ep #449
How do you follow up with podcast leads without feeling like you are bothering people?
One of the biggest things I am learning is that the conversation has to continue. Someone showing interest in your podcast, registering for your training, or having one conversation with you does not mean the relationship is finished.
In this episode of the Failure Is Knowledge Podcast, I share what finally made follow up make sense to me.
I recently had four entrepreneurs register for my Launch Your Podcast in Less Than 90 Minutes training.
When the training started, none of them showed up.
Instead of assuming they were no longer interested, I started calling and texting them.
Two of the four responded.
That taught me something.
The conversation can continue.
In this episode, I talk about:
• Why one conversation is not enough
• Why follow up matters in business
• How communication helps build trust
After producing 893 podcast episodes, I am recognizing that podcasting is not only about creating content.
It can help you start conversations and build relationships, but those relationships still have to be maintained.
If you are an established business owner trying to use podcasting to build trust, this episode will help you understand why the work does not stop after the first conversation.

E449 - 35m - Aug 22, 2026 - What It Takes to Launch a Podcast | with Terryl Humphrey | Ep #444
Have you ever wondered what actually goes into launching a podcast?
In this episode of the Failure Is Knowledge Podcast, I'm bringing you behind the scenes while I set up my cameras, microphones, lights, and teleprompter to record a new video for the Failure Is Knowledge website.
I'm also sharing why I've continued changing our messaging, what producing more than 893 podcast episodes has taught me, and why I believe business owners should start their podcast with what they have.
Launching a podcast can feel like a lot.
You have to think about the equipment, recording, editing, publishing, content, and staying consistent.
But you don't have to figure out everything before you start.
When I started, my tripod wasn't even tall enough.
I had to put three books underneath it just to get the camera where I needed it.
Over time, I upgraded my equipment and continued learning.
That's one of the biggest lessons from this episode:
Start with what you have.
Podcasting gives you an opportunity to share your expertise, tell your stories, market your business, build trust, and connect with people in different ways.

E444 - 46m - Aug 19, 2026 - Your Podcast can be More | with Terryl Humphrey | Ep #443
Can your podcast become more than just content?
In today's episode of the Failure Is Knowledge Podcast, I talk about how podcasting can become the first step in how you market yourself, communicate what you do, build trust, and meet your customers where they are.
After producing 893 podcast episodes and helping entrepreneurs launch their podcasts, I started to understand that having a podcast is only part of the process.
Your podcast can help people learn who you are, what you do, who you help, and the problem you solve. But you also have to put yourself in places where potential customers can find you.
In this episode, I discuss:
-Why you have to meet your customers where they are
-Why consistency helps you stay top of mind
-How podcasting prepares you to communicate
Podcasting helped me become more comfortable communicating.
That communication helped me speak in front of audiences, attend events, connect with business owners, and continue learning how to market what we do.
Whether you're thinking about launching a podcast or already have one, the bigger question is what you're building from it.

Your podcast may already be helping people, but you might not be measuring the right results.

After producing 893 podcast episodes and helping 30 entrepreneurs launch their podcasts with confidence, Terryl recognized that many podcasts use the same basic structure.

The difference comes from how the podcaster studies the market, applies knowledge, communicates their message, and creates a competitive advantage.
In this episode, you will learn how to:
-Study other podcasts without copying them

-Practice what you sell
Terryl also shares how one event produced $386.40, content, testimonials, behind-the-scenes footage, recorded panel discussions, and proof of concept after helping five entrepreneurs launch their podcasts in less than five minutes.

It can help people learn about your business, build trust in your experience, understand your services, and become customers.

E439 - 33m - Aug 3, 2026 - What Makes a Good Production Company? | with Terryl Humphrey | Ep #438
Are you an organization looking to host an event, record content, or document your process?
Choosing the right production company can determine whether an important moment becomes valuable marketing content or disappears after the event is over.
What the Episode Covers
In this episode of the Failure Is Knowledge Podcast, Terryl Humphrey explains three things to look for when choosing a production company:
Consistency
Communication
Fast turnaround
Terryl also shares how he started recording podcast episodes with a phone, a short tripod, and three books underneath it.
Over time, he realized that production was not only about recording video. It was also about documenting the process, creating proof, marketing the business, and helping the moment reach people who were not in the room.
Main Lessons
-A production company must consistently capture important moments.
-A camera is a tool for marketing and proof.
-Communication should happen before, during, and after production.
-Customers should not have to guess whether their footage is being edited.
-Fast turnaround helps businesses publish and promote their content sooner.
-Once a moment is captured, the footage can continue being used for years.
An event may only have 30 people in the room, but recorded footage can reach hundreds or thousands of new people.
Without production, the people who were not in the room may never understand what happened, what was taught, or what value was provided.
Production helps make the moment last.
This is a solo episode featuring Terryl Humphrey, founder of Failure Is Knowledge.
Terryl has produced 893 podcast episodes while helping 23 entrepreneurs launch their podcasts with confidence.
Look for a production company that is consistent, communicates effectively, and delivers your footage quickly.

E437 - 38m - Jul 14, 2026 - How To Market Yourself With Podcasting | with Terryl Humphrey | Ep #436
Podcasting is one of the best ways to market yourself, your business, and the problem you are solving.
In this episode of the Failure Is Knowledge Podcast, I talk about why podcasting is more than recording videos or creating content.
It is about helping people learn more about who you are, your mission, your business, and the story behind what you do.
I also share a real experience from one of the first times someone said yes to working with me.
The payment system failed seven times, and I had to learn how to communicate, fix the payment process, and understand what it really means to operate a business.
This episode covers:
-Why you have to share who you are
-Why storytelling matters in business
-Why marketing creates awareness
The main lesson is simple: podcasting is not just about the podcast. It is about becoming known for something and helping people connect with your story.
