Time flies when you are having fun, and it almost stops when life becomes hard. This might be the best proof of Einstein’s General Theory of Relativity. In life, each of us has to go through our own battles. What might look trivial to someone may be as important as life itself to someone else. Have you ever noticed how the memories of recent years from your past appear to be longer than your much older memories? As you go further and further into the past, your memories look to be more and more compressed. This is because as we get older, more and more memories take up space in our minds and become a part of our life. To illustrate, consider this example, a 20 years old person has almost fifty percent of their memories to be about their young and adolescent life, in contrast to a 50 years old person whose adolescent life form only 20 percent of all of their memories. So, as we get older, time surely feels to have flown by fairly quickly. So one can’t help but wonder, how much time do they really have to live the life of their dreams? But, can someone actually live the life of their dreams? What does it require to fulfill dreams? For that, a person must be acquainted with their dreams. And this is not an easy task. There are many kinds of dreams and a person can have several dreams of each kind. In order to bring dreams to reality, they first need to be brought inside the realm of achievability. I know people say nothing is impossible, but one should be very careful with what one wants to achieve. A person adamant about breathing in a vacuum will never be able to realize his dream. Once a realistic dream is identified, it needs to be cultivated with effort. Nothing is free in this world, not even dreams. For their realization, it is very essential that one must put in efforts and not be afraid of sacrifices that will surely knock at their doors. Along with this, patience is going to be the greatest ally in this journey. A house is not built in a day, someone must put the first brick with utmost belief and gradually build on it. Once you have all these prerequisites lined up, there is still no guarantee that your dreams will one day become reality. Just because you’re putting in effort into something you want doesn’t mean that you are the only one doing that. It’s like a race, you have to work on yourself, as well as be far better than everyone else. That is what it takes to go from one day to day one.   Don’t get me wrong, I am not trying to discourage anyone from following their dreams. I am just drawing a contrast between life and the dream itself. Just like I said, life flies, but what do dreams do? They crawl. They beat you down to the ground, they personally introduce you to rock-bottom, they compel you to sacrifice and sometimes even make life miserable. But, the people who are mad enough to go through the time of this torture are actually the people who know that the satisfaction they will receive from the gratification of their dreams is incomparable to anything else in the world.  One might argue that if this is what it takes to reach your dream life then, is it even worth it? One might not be having an intimate relationship with his dream. It’s the same argument as someone saying that they can google the image of the top of the Himalayas and hence need not climb it. Dreams are made up of sweat, tears, and blood. They pull you out from your comfort zone and throw you into the world of uncertainty and pain, all because you dare to think big. That is why you are supposed to chase the dream in pursuit of your happiness. Do you ever wonder why it goes like this – Pursuit of happiness! Maybe, the multimillionaire stockbroker Chris Gardner, whose life was portrayed by the actor Will Smith, has the answer. As he put it…  “That maybe happiness is something that we can only pursue and maybe we can actually never have it.”  He also achieved happiness in the latter part of his life. And yes! He actually struggled, but never gave up on the pursuit of his dreams, his happiness. And this brings us to the last ingredient of what dreams are made of… Persistence! I’ll have to take back a few words of mine though. Dreaming and trying to live your dream life is not a race as I claimed above. It’s a marathon. The only thing that matters is the answer to the question which goes something like this,  Do you have what it takes to be persistent?  If the answer to the above question is yes, then you have the power to bring your dreams to reality. And this is what dreams do, they beat you down… to build you up.
