RedCircle Content Policy

Introduction

RedCircle’s mission is to help creators to be heard. Our platform is designed to help creators of all types to bring their voice to the world. Therefore, we believe that, in general, the RedCircle platform should remain neutral in what content we publish and what creators we work with. The RedCircle team’s views (political, religious, etc) should not be used to decide what content can be published on monetized on the platform.

However, to ensure that RedCircle’s platform on the whole is providing a fundamental good in the world, we draw lines on specific types of content which are not acceptable on the platform. The rules below are designed to make sure that RedCircle is not used to promote hate, violence, or other unsafe categories of content.

RedCircle Content Rules

Violence

No content on RedCircle may threaten violence against a person or a group of people. Glorification of violence is also disallowed.

Terrorism & Violent Extremism

The promotion of violent extremism or terrorism is not permitted on RedCircle.

Child Sexual Exploitation

RedCircle has zero-tolerance for any content that describes, depicts, or promotes child sexual exploitation.

This includes types of content that may not directly exploit a child but glorifies the topic or builds community that centers on the topic. For instance:

  • sharing fantasies about or promoting engagement in child sexual exploitation;
  • expressing a desire to obtain materials that feature child sexual exploitation;
  • recruiting, advertising or expressing an interest in a commercial sex act involving a child, or in harboring and/or transporting a child for sexual purposes;
  • identifying alleged victims of childhood sexual exploitation by name or image.
are expressly forbidden, but this list may not be exhaustive.

Human Exploitation

RedCircle does not allow content that enables or glorifies the exploitation of humans, especially human trafficking. We define human trafficking as depriving someone of freedom for profit. This may include exploitation for sex, labor, or other activities against their will. It relies on deception, force and coercion, and degrades humans by depriving them of their freedom for economic gain of others.

Abuse and Harassment

You may not engage in the intentional and direct harassment of someone, or incite others to do the same. Examples of abuse and harassment are:

  • Wishing serious harm on a person or group of people
  • Unwanted public sexual fixation or continuous advances
  • Using violent or aggressive insults with the purpose of harassing or intimidating others.
  • The use of slurs can apply here, though the use of slurs in isolation is not sufficient to violate this policy.
  • Encouraging others to do any of the above

Every situation is unique, and RedCircle will carefully review any complaints about abuse and harassment to assess whether the content in question violates either specifics of this policy or its intentions.

Hateful Speech

RedCircle explicitly does not allow hate speech. We define hate speech as a direct attack on an individual or group of people based on any of the following characteristics:

  • Race
  • Ethnicity
  • National origin
  • Religious affiliation
  • Sexual orientation
  • Caste
  • Sex
  • Gender
  • Gender identity
  • Age
  • Serious disease or disability

An ‘attack’ for the purposes of this rule is violent or dehumanizing speech, determinations of inferiority, or expressing that a certain group should be excluded or segregated in society. This includes the use of hateful imagery associated with hate groups or with the promotion of hostilities.

Here are some examples of hate speech.

  • “All white people should be put in jail” (segregation)
  • “In general, Asians are weak.” (determinations of inferiority)
  • “We should kill as Muslims” (violence)
  • “Gay people are animals” (dehumanizing)
  • The use of a Swastika in a podcast’s artwork (hateful imagery)

Repeated and/or non-consensual slurs / epithets, racist and sexist tropes, or other content that reinforces negative or harmful stereotypes about a protected category is not permitted. Intentional, continuous, and targeted misgendering / deadnaming of an individual is included in this provision.

Fraud and Deception

RedCircle does not allow content that purposes to deliberately deceive people to gain an unfair advantage or deprive another of money, property, or legal right.

Suicide or Self-Harm

Content that promotes or encourages suicide or self-harm is not permitted on RedCircle.

Illegal Activities

RedCircle cannot be used for any unlawful purpose or to aid in any illegal activity.

Private Information

Publishing other’s private information (such as home phone number and address) without their express permission is not allowed. Threatening to expose private information or calling on others to do so is also not allowed.

Civic Integrity

Content that manipulates or interferes in civic processes is not allowed. This includes content that may suppress participation or mislead people in an effort to disrupt a civic process.

Impersonation

You may not impersonate individuals, groups, or organizations in order to confuse or deceive. Explicit parodies are allowed.

Spam and Non-Podcast Content

Off Platform Content

Generally, RedCircle will not take action against any podcast creator for any content they produce or actions they may take off of the RedCircle platform. However, if RedCircle is informed of particularly heinous cases of off-platform content or actions that violate our policies, RedCircle may still choose to take action against the creator.

Historical Content

RedCircle believes that individuals can learn and grow. As such, historical content that has since been removed by the content creator will not be considered as a violation of this content policy.

How RedCircle Resolves Violations

When a creator violates this RedCircle content policy, the RedCircle Trust and Safety Team will assess the severity of the violation and take one or more of the following actions:

  • Written warning to the creator
  • Removal of the content in question
  • Demonetization of the creator’s content
  • Termination of the creator’s account
  • Reporting of the content to the appropriate authorities where warranted

Regardless of the action taken, RedCircle’s content creators retain full control and ownership of their content. In the event that content is removed from RedCircle or the creator’s account is terminated, copies of any and all content can be provided to the creator as needed.

Changes to the Policy and Reserved Action

This content policy is an evolving document. As more content is posted to RedCircle, and future content issues emerge, our team will do our best to update the policy to better ensure that our software helps podcasters to be heard, while simultaneously balancing the safety and freedom of the greater community.

RedCircle reserves the right in the Terms of Service to terminate an account for any reason. As such, if particularly heinous content is posted to the RedCircle platform with content that is clearly objectionable but not yet covered in the policy above, it may still be removed.
