The You'll See the Bottom Just Before the Bump Edition

1h 49m | Oct 30, 2026

The tech world feels as if it is at a pivotal moment at which the glass floor of the AI world threatens to crack. In the past week, Google's parent Alphabet lost a half trillion in value after releasing a less than spectacular Q3-26 earnings report. Earlier, Microsoft announced the layoff of 60,000 workers or nearly 1/4 of its overall headcount. The Chinese AI bubble may have burst with a loss of nearly $500billion in market value in the STAR50 index of Chinese AI and semiconductor companies. Anthropic is itching to release its IPO but remains stalled basically because it still loses so much more than it earns. In the meantime, rogue AIs threaten to do any number of nasty things to a world still reeling from being put on a constant zero-day posture in the ongoing Hackopalyse up to and including ending it altogether. It's a small world after all.
