Espionage thriller drama (1952 - 54)
Based on the book by real-life undercover agent, Matt Cvetic, I Was a Communist for the FBI was a dramatization of Cvetics life during the time he infiltrated the Communist Party of the United States of America (CPUSA). In real life, Cvetic lost everything he loved--his wife, children, parents, friends--except for his country and love for that country is what kept him going.
The old time radio show stars Dana Andrews in the lead role and paints a picture of a man constantly under stress, constantly tested in his loyalty and devotion to the party. While the radio drama was just that, a drama, the stories of Cvetic constantly walking a fine line between discovery by the Communists and doing his job as best he could to gather information and throw up road blocks to their activity in the United States.
Cvetic lived in constant fear for nine years from 1941 to 1950 while he was a party member knowing that if he was discovered, he would pay with his life. His recruitment by the FBI was something out of a spy movie. After failing to gain entry into the US Army in 1941 because he was too short, he received a mysterious phone call. He met his handler exactly once and never met him again though submitted over 50,000 pages of reports.

49m - Oct 8, 2026 - In honor of Halloween and how it seems to fit our gloom and doom aura lately we will begin the month of episodes of The Sealed Book radio series.
This is also an episode featuring the "Orange 25 Days" and our administration debacle.
Today's episode is the first of this series, "Hands of Death"
The Sealed Book
Scriptwriter Robert Arthur, Jr c. 1931
The Sealed Book was a radio series of mystery and terror tales, produced and directed by Jock MacGregor for the Mutual network. Between March 18 and September 9, 1945, the melodramatic anthology series was broadcast on Sundays from 10:30 pm to 11:00 pm.[1]
Each week, after "the sound of the great gong," host Philip Clarke observed that the mysteriously silent "keeper of the book has opened the ponderous door to the secret vault wherein is kept the great sealed book, in which is recorded all the secrets and mysteries of mankind through the ages, Here are tales of every kind, tales of murder, of madness, of dark deeds strange and terrible beyond all belief." After this introduction, the dramas began, with three organ solo breaks for inserting the commercials of local stations carrying the program. Although this anthology series did not have recurring characters (other than the Narrator and the Keeper of the Book), the writers often used the same names for different characters from week to week, including "Hester", "Drake", "Chris", and most especially "Roger".
At the end of an episode, Clarke told listeners to tune in the following week when "the sound of the great gong heralds another strange and exciting tale from... the sealed book." Scripts were by Robert Arthur, Jr.and David Kogan, who also were responsible for The Mysterious Traveler, and recycled many of the more popular stories from that parent program. "The Hands of Death" was the first of the 26 episodes which concluded with "You Only Die Once".

This is that time when we are told to be prepared to die by the A I generation, evictions, seniors homeless, can't afford food, healthcare and so much more. The 1968 album from Jethro Tull with folk, blues, jazz and rock n' roll. One of my favorites from this band.

This upload contains 75 episodes of the Old Time Radio program, I Was a Communist for the FBI. Following on the heels of the 1951 movie by the same name, Dana Andrews brought the show to radio in 1952. The show was a patriotic vehicle to warn against the evils of communism at a time when the tensions of the Cold War with the Soviet Union were ever-present. The show aired for a little over a year, and all but four episodes appear to have survived and are included here.
