In this episode, we focus on the composers nominated for the 2026 Camille Awards. The Camille Awards, co-funded by Creative Europe, celebrate outstanding achievements by composers in film and audiovisual music. This year, composers are nominated across three categories: Best Original Film Score, Best Original Score for a Feature Documentary, and Best Original Music for a Drama Series. The ceremony will take place on 22 September 2026 at the MuTh Theatre in Vienna, where the prestigious Tonkünstler Orchestra will perform the nominated works. The ceremony will be hosted by ECSA member Austrian Composers Association (ACOM). On 2 June 2026, ECSA hosted the conference “Authors’ Rights and Music Streaming in the Age of AI” in Brussels. Providing a platform to exchange on the current state of copyright and generative AI regulation in the EU, the conference focused on the challenges faced by music authors and other creators and on exploring possible solutions. During the event, several panel discussions and keynotes examined both the relationship between generative AI and authors’ rights and the implications of AI-generated music for creators in today’s streaming ecosystem. This podcast episode includes a recording of the second panel of the conference, titled &#34;AI, Transparency, and Fairness in Today&#39;s Music Streaming Ecosystem&#34;. As stressed by ECSA and many others recently, the surge of AI-generated music on streaming platforms is having a profound impact on the entire music streaming ecosystem. This poses several challenges to music creators, from supercharging streaming fraud and artist impersonation, to raising risks for the discoverability of European music and European cultural diversity. Moreover, the pervasive lack of transparency over AI-generated music and algorithmic recommendations are leaving creators and listeners in the dark. During this discussion, our panellists exchanged views on what can be done by EU and national policy makers as well as by industry stakeholders to address and tackle these challenges. In recent years, ECSA has continuously advocated for a fairer music streaming ecosystem. The distribution of the streaming pie, the value of songs and compositions, revenue allocation systems, the lack of transparency around algorithms and playlists; and the flood of AI generated content on streaming services: these are all examples of issues that deeply affect composers and songwriters. In this episode, we will touch upon all of these issues with Liz Pelly, author of the book “Mood Machine: The Rise of Spotify and the Costs of the Perfect Playlist” (2025).In her book, she describes Spotify’s influence on music creation and consumption, and talks about how streaming services reshaped the music industry as a whole. For this episode, ECSA President and Songwriter Helienne Lindvall spoke to Liz Pelly about her book. In November 2024, ECSA published a report titled &#34;Fostering Gender Equality among Music Creators”. One of the main issues the report touches upon is the issue of harassment and unwanted behaviour in the music sector. A majority of women in music experience sexual harassment, while most of them do not report these experiences, due to fear of retaliation or the belief that nothing would change. What can we do to accommodate those who experienced harassment or unwanted behaviour in the music industry in the best way? Can we learn from initiatives taken by ECSA member organisations? In this episode, ECSA delegates Delphine Ciampi-Ellis (UNAC), Jojo von Hertzen (Finnish Music Creators), and Aafke Romeijn (BAM Popauteurs) share their experiences and insights on initiatives taken on national level in their respective countries.
