• Boston Johnny (2023)

Matt Farley is Boston Johnny, a regional salesman for the greater Boston area. Once popular on television, the times are changing, and there are greater market forces and fiercer competition like Toronto's Own Will Sloan. Boston Johnny premiered during this year's Motern Extravaganza, which hosted two new film screenings and five hours of concerts! Several of our The Twin Geeks friends were in attendance and we get the full report from our own area salesmen.

  • Magic Spot (2022)

We catch up with the latest Motern Masterpiece, the must-see Magic Spot, ahead of this weekend's Motern Extravaganza, featuring two brand new films for the coming year and an extensive concert to boot. This is that special kind of science fiction film, light on conflict, high on wordplay, and exuding home-spun charm in the way only Motern movies can. Magic Spot is one of our best unsung contemporary movies and we are here to sing its praises.

Our do-good cops are in for a world of hurt as they meet a ne'er-do-well heel. Lace up your finest detective boots because there is a crime to solve and only the world's most verbose cops have the lexicon and proper raison d'etre to stomp out this crime.

  • Local Legends (2013)

We're proud to present Local Legends, Matt Farley's meta-textual film about the process of creation and how it is being the author of 20,000 songs and the world's greatest string of backyard movies. This film is a proper The Twin Geeks classic, taking the regionally-focused Motern Method of filmmaking and matching it to self-aware, brilliant shoestring budget acting and an unrefined style of shooting that clearly echoes the ethos and ethics of how this talented group make films.

  • Monsters, Marriage and Murder in Manchvegas (2009) with Charles Roxburgh

It's our honor to welcome Charles Roxburgh to the show. As the director mastermind behind the Motern Media vehicle, Charles is responsible for so many of our new favorite cult movies and is just as amiable on our show as is apparent in all of his lovely movies. Join us for a longform open-hearted conversation discussing yet another gem in the Motern canon, but also our collective love of cult and outsider films as a whole. There are many details here you're just not gonna get anywhere else!

  • Obtuse Todd (2006)

The Motern filmography often feels like it's operating outside standard rules and ways of making a movie. Obtuse Todd doesn't feel that way. It meets the way movies are made, designed for festivals with more typical plotting and structure, and then carries on doing the Motern thing anyway on top of all that. As always, it's a delight how little our friends can conform, even when they're trying to. What we're left with is another very funny entry about friends hanging out and singing songs, as a kind of fore-bearer to a staff favorite. We also watched Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2 (1987) and discuss clip-show sequels, the space in horror for fun absurdities, and why it might resonate more than the first entry. Don't let the Santa get you!

  • Druid Gladiator Clone (2003) & Druids Druids Everywhere (2020)

It's Druid mayhem as our devoted crew of Motern Media archeologists present the final two movements in the Druid Saga. While both pictures were produced around the same time, Druids Druids Everywhere has only recently released on another film's blu-ray. The disparate films offer wildly different takes on the ever-evolving Motern formula. Both are a lot of fun to explore. Won't you join us? Just don't let the Druids get you...

  • Sammy (2002)

We’re going to need the full title — Sammy: The Tale of a Teddy and a Terrible Tunnel. An homage to 1981’s cult horror film The Pit, Sammy: TTOATAATT takes the core character, ages him significantly, and plays into the usual band of Motern Media tropes. Here, those are still being established, in the early days of backyard productions and barely connected entries into the gang’s Druid Trilogy. We discuss the cult movie that has inspired it and our varied thoughts about the success of this campy homage. Won’t you join us? Just don’t let it get you…

  • Adventures in Cruben Country (2002)

Musical Matt Farley becomes Mayor in this marvelous microbudget indie, the second in our series on all the movies of Motern Media. A few years following 1999's The Paperboy, Adventures in Cruben Country finds the crew established the tenor of what will become their ultimate mystique. Directed by Matt Farley, the film explores Farely's interests: lots of walking and talking; verbose scripts with delirious wordplay; pickup basketball; and lots of fun-loving solutions for how to make a small film with no money at all. It's a delight. Our show's own Matt also went to a Motern Media party in the woods! He reports back on a few hours of performances and getting some valuable time with the creators of some of our favorite movies! Don't Let the Moterncast Get You!

  • The Paperboy (1999)

Did you ever make films for fun as a kid? Well, the people from Motern Media did that too. They just haven't stopped. And, you know what? The resulting films are really fun. So fun that The Twin Geeks crew are going to watch them all and talk about them. This episode is about the first Motern movie, a college made film about... College. More specifically, about a man who puts underwear on his head as a disguise so he can sell black market papers to students. It's as delightful as it sounds. So, join Calvin, Stephen, Jack and Matt for an introduction to the MoternVerse and a breakdown of why this initial film is such a charmer.
