7 Relationship Myths Smart Women Still Believe (Ep 115)
33m | Sep 15, 2026What if some of the relationship advice you've been following sounds healthy…but is actually keeping you stuck?
“If he really loves me, I shouldn't have to tell him what I need.”
“If I compromise, I'm settling.”
“When it's the right person, the relationship should feel natural.”
“If I'm right, my partner needs to understand that I'm right.”
Sound familiar? 👀
In this episode of The Secret Formula of Femininity, licensed psychologist Dr. Nicole Monteiro breaks down 7 common relationship myths that even smart, capable women can believe—and explains what the psychology of healthy love teaches us instead.
Because being intelligent doesn't make us immune to relationship myths.
Sometimes it just makes us better at defending them.
In this episode, we're unpacking:
💚 Why expecting your partner to read your mind can actually interfere with intimacy
💚 The difference between compromising and settling
💚 Why a healthy relationship won't always feel “natural”
💚 The difference between what's familiar and what's actually healthy
💚 Why being RIGHT can sometimes get in the way of being connected
💚 Why one partner cannot realistically meet every emotional need
💚 How competence and overfunctioning can quietly create unhealthy relationship dynamics
💚 Why choosing the right person doesn't automatically create the right relationship
💚 How to identify the beliefs you may need to reconsider in order to create healthier love
One of the biggest questions in this episode is:
Am I expecting my partner to know me—or am I allowing myself to be known?
Healthy love isn't mind-reading.
It requires us to communicate our desires, tolerate vulnerability, repair after conflict, respect each other's boundaries, allow ourselves to be influenced, and make room for two different people to exist inside one relationship.
And for my women who are accustomed to handling EVERYTHING:
Being capable doesn't mean you always have to take over.
Sometimes healthy partnership requires asking, receiving, allowing someone else to participate—and tolerating the fact that they may do things differently than you would.
