Sarah, John, and Lucy finally make it back to Grandeur only to find that the shop owner, Jenny, has made a terrible mistake.  She has posted a sign explaining that the Picky Pixie needs guards, and the shop is currently about to open with nothing to stop anyone from taking all of their valuable jewelry. She forgot that the shop is deep in the Thieve's district. A huge crowd of ruffians surrounds the shop and Sarah has to do something before the shop is overrun. 

Mrs. Crass takes her chance to kill the storyteller that went by the name Kafe Mean. The bozrac can not be stopped, but still, something goes horribly wrong, not for the bozrac though. Terrible decisions reap terrible consequences.

Marie and Jayde reveal more than desired in an inn that forces you to tell the truth. They then meet with a representative from the DATT, which at first seems like the answer to all of their problems. He offers them a building in a fantastic location. But, this building comes with serious problems.

Marl and Marie enter the tournament, which becomes brutal quickly when they win a match but the competitor sinks a metal hammer into Marl's side. They meet Kevin, a lanky co-competitor, and an odd man selling "taters."

An assassin watches in the shadows. Waiting and watching and scheming. But... who is it?

Marl and Marie fight in the enormous tournament, but a new fight erupts, one where other members of the party are fighting for their lives.

Cameron, Jayde, Marie and the rest discuss how to clean their new place. Esmeralda explains that in Grandeur, the hobgoblins can clean anything, but not without a price. After convincing the hobgoblins to clean their place, Cameron and Marie reveal a few secrets that might completely change how Jayde sees them.

While Cameron and Marl get supplies, Jayde and Marie explore Grandeur and the different magical orders. Jayde soon discovers that there is a multitude of different directions to hone abilities. After several stops, Jayde discoveres her magical calling, but she might have discovered a dangerous path best left untaken.

After the tournament, Mullet and Keven take jobs with Sarah at the Picky Pixie. Mullet, however, receives little trust from the pixie troop.  Then, one evening, a particularly untrusting pixie named Tali gets assaulted and Mullet does everything he can to save her life.

Jayde has been training to conjure for a month, though most of her time has been spent running errands for the Conjuring order. Yow Li meets with her and discusses her potential and takes her as his personal student. Jayde flourishes.

Sarah and Kevin discuss their past, and Sarah is given a shocking revelation.

Mrs. Crass feels a disturbance. Finn tastes victory.

Sarah meets madam Fiona, a Seer with an amazing gift. She reveals a truth that will change everything. Also she's an amazing cook.

Jayde tries to conjure a bit too much and pays the price

Sarah feels an unfamiliar pull after waking up from her encounter with the Diviner. After a brief discussion, they realize drastic measures may have to be taken.

Jayde has a delivery in the Thieves' District to an old friend of Yow Li.  Apparently other individuals have seen her skills as well.  She then comes to an ominous building and discovers she must go deep within the Assassin's order.

Sarah goes to Cameron's clinic and is evaluated, revealing some frighting discoveries.

Jayde encounters Slicy, an eccentric assassin deep within the Assassin's Order. She discovers that her history and many of the past events have been leading toward a terrifying and sinister end.

Jayde and Sarah finally meet. Cameron is sure something unexpected will happen, and it does. However, this is not the only unexpected meeting, and when Slicy and Cameron meet, both immediately draw blades. Unfortunately, both have a history, and the Dark King is coming.

Jayde confronts the bozrac, but a creature that can phase through solid objects is impossible to stop. Also, the final chapter of the book tells of a next story to be told.
