• Is Ultra-Processed Food Really Killing Us? Huel Co-Founder Responds

This week Huel co-founder James Collier joins the podcast.

Before Huel became a global phenomenon, James experienced childhood bullying, the devastating loss of his mother, depression, destructive anger and a life-threatening spinal infection that left him immobile and psychologically at rock bottom.

James is a registered nutritionist, author and former NHS dietitian with more than 30 years of experience. He also developed Huel’s original nutritional formula…Huel subsequently grew into a global brand!

We discuss critical-thinking & why he grounds his life in honesty, rigour, compassion and humility.

We also examine our emotional relationship with food. Why does nutrition become so tribal? Why are people drawn towards extreme health claims? Is all ultra-processed food inherently harmful? Can food provide convenience without replacing connection? And what responsibility do influential wellness brands have when communicating health information?

James also introduces the philosophy behind his book, Well Fed: How Modern Diets Are Failing Us and What We Can Do About It… and explains why nutrition must account for more than calories, protein or body weight. His approach brings together physical health, mental wellbeing, sustainability, ethics and the deeply human importance of eating together.

This is not simply a conversation about building a business & a brand. It’s a conversation about what we build inside ourselves when life strips away our sense of certainty, how our earliest wounds can shape our drive, and why genuine success means very little if our minds cannot allow us to experience it.

The New Mind Podcast is hosted by Ella McCrystal, psychotherapist, trauma specialist, TEDx speaker, author and founder of The Neurolectrics Method™️.

In this episode, I’m sitting down with a man whose work helped expose one of Britain’s darkest & most disturbing truths.

  • S3x, Drugs, Money, Fame.

They Changed 90s Music Forever: Oasis, Nirvana, Snoop Dogg & The Untold Stories….

This week, I’m opening The New Mind Podcast archive & bringing back two extraordinary conversations with two men who witnessed music history being made from completely different sides of the industry.

These interviews were originally released when The New Mind Podcast was much smaller. Since then, the audience has grown enormously, so many of you will never have heard them.

They’re simply too good to stay buried in the archive!!

So this episode features former Island Records Managing Director Marc Marot & legendary broadcaster & presenter of Channel 4’s The Word, Terry Christian.

Marc Marot spent his career at the heart of the international music business. He began at Blue Mountain Music, associated with the catalogues of Bob Marley & U2, before becoming the youngest Managing Director of Island Records at just 29.

His career put him alongside some of the most important artists & movements in modern music, with Island during his tenure associated with artists including Ice Cube, NWA, Pulp, The Cranberries, Tricky, Stereo MC’s, P.M. Dawn, Nine Inch Nails, The Orb, PJ Harvey & many more

Marc takes us behind the curtain of the record industry, sharing what happens when extraordinary talent, enormous personalities, money, ambition, creativity, pressure & fame collide.

    Then there’s Terry Christian….

For millions who grew up in Britain during the 1990s, Terry was the unmistakable face of Channel 4’s The Word, one of the most controversial, anarchic & culturally significant youth television programmes of its generation.

Long before YouTube, TikTok, Instagram or Spotify could launch an artist overnight, television could change a career.

The Word became a platform for artists who would go on to dominate global music, including Nirvana, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Jamiroquai & Oasis, whose appearance performing Supersonic became their first television performance.

Terry takes us back inside that extraordinary period of British culture & talks about music, television, fame, class, controversy, celebrity & what was really happening behind the scenes.

One man was helping shape music from inside one of the world’s most influential record labels.

The other was helping put a new generation of artists in front of millions of people.

Together, their stories offer a remarkable window into an era before algorithms, influencers & social media, when record labels, television, radio, magazines & a handful of cultural gatekeepers could help determine what the world heard next.

If you love 90s music, Britpop, Oasis, U2, Nirvana, hip hop, music documentaries, music industry stories, Channel 4’s The Word or hearing what really happens behind fame, this episode is for you.

  • Who Made You This Way?

What happens when a life shaped by addiction, chaos, trauma, self sabotage, & destructive patterns reaches breaking point?

More importantly, what does it actually take to rebuild from the inside out?

In this powerful episode of The New Mind Podcast, l sit down with Lord Ashley Phipps-Warren, author of The Inner Upgrade series, for an unfiltered conversation about addiction recovery, personal transformation, resilience, accountability, purpose, & the psychology behind lasting change.

Ashley shares the realities behind his journey through addiction & rebuilding a meaningful life. Rather than offering clichés or quick fixes, this conversation explores what genuine transformation looks like when someone chooses to confront themselves honestly.

Together, Ella & Ashley explore how trauma shapes identity, why people become trapped in self destructive cycles, how the brain adapts to adversity, the importance of discipline over motivation, & why healing begins with radical self awareness rather than external validation.

  • Crime, Prison, Heartbreak and God.

What happens when someone grows up believing crime is a way of life?

This week I sit down with Chris Booth, a man whose life has been shaped by crime, addiction, prison, violence, family legacy, and consequence.

Chris began committing robberies at 15 years old, before spiralling into drug addiction and spending decades behind bars.

This conversation doesn’t offer easy answers.

Chris speaks openly about the choices he made….He’s rutally honest throughout.

This isn’t a celebration of crime. It’s an unfiltered exploration of trauma, identity, addiction, family patterns, personal responsibility, and the psychology behind a life lived outside the law.

If you’re interested in true crime, criminal psychology, addiction, rehabilitation, trauma, prison life, forensic psychology, or understanding the human mind, this is an episode you won’t forget.

    In this episode you’ll discover:

    * How childhood shapes identity and decision making

    * The reality of prison life in the UK

    * Drug addiction and the cycle of offending

  • Justice Failed... He Didn’t. The Day He Took On A Predator

Brad Donovan’s life has been shaped by violence, prison, bare knuckle fighting & choices that many people will judge at face value.

Yet when you look beneath the surface, a very different story begins to emerge.

One of childhood trauma, survival, emotional pain, ADHD, impulsivity, rejection, fear & a nervous system that’d adapted to danger from an incredibly young age.

When children grow up believing the world’s unsafe, their brains don’t develop around connection. They develop around protection. Hypervigilance replaces trust. Impulsivity replaces reflection. Anger becomes armour. Risk becomes normal.

For many children living with trauma & ADHD, the path towards violence isn’t planned. It’s adapted.

Brad shares what life’s really like inside the prison system, why prison often teaches people how to become better criminals rather than helping them understand themselves & how the little boy inside him never actually disappeared. He simply learnt to survive in the only ways he knew.

This conversation isn’t about removing accountability. It’s about adding understanding….

Because if we want fewer victims, fewer offenders, fewer children growing into adults consumed by violence, addiction, crime & emotional pain, we’ve got to start asking different questions.

As a psychotherapist specialising in trauma, I explore the neuroscience behind behaviour, emotional dysregulation, attachment, adverse childhood experiences & why so many people’re punished for adaptations their brains made to keep them alive.

This episode will challenge your beliefs about violence, criminality, masculinity, rehabilitation, trauma & what real healing actually looks like.

Because every violent adult was once an innocent child.

If this conversation moves you, subscribe, share it & help us change the way the world understands trauma, prison, violence, & mental health. One conversation really can change a life.

  • Death isn’t The End... Life after Near Death

This week, I’m absolutely delighted to welcome back one of my favourite guests, the brilliant Emmanuel Sonubi, for his THIRD appearance on The New Mind Podcast.

Emmanuel is one of the most exciting comedians in the world right now. A stand up comedian, writer & storyteller whose honesty, intelligence, warmth, & razor sharp humour have earned him a devoted following across the globe.

Having toured the UK, Australia, & New Zealand with his hugely successful Life After Near Death tour, he’s now taking the show across Europe, continuing to captivate audiences wherever he goes!!

Every time Emmanuel joins me, I know we’re going to laugh, but what continually surprises me is just how much depth sits beneath the comedy.

Whilst he’s undoubtedly one of the funniest people you’ll ever listen to, he’s also one of the most thoughtful, insightful, & emotionally intelligent people I’ve had the pleasure of knowing.

Following a near death experience that profoundly changed his perspective on life, Emmanuel brings a wisdom, humanity, & authenticity that makes every conversation with him unforgettable. He has a remarkable ability to find meaning in life’s most difficult moments, transforming adversity into something that not only inspires others but encourages us to look at ourselves a little differently too.

In this episode, we explore life, death, resilience, purpose, fear, gratitude, success, connection, & what it truly means to be alive. It’s a conversation filled with laughter, honesty, vulnerability, perspective, & those rare moments that make you stop for a second & reflect on the things that really matter.

Emmanuel possesses an extraordinary gift. He can have you crying with laughter one moment & quietly contemplating life’s biggest questions the next, often without you even realising the shift has happened.

This isn’t simply a conversation with a comedian. It’s a conversation with someone who’s walked through one of life’s most profound experiences & returned with a deeper appreciation for living, loving, laughing, & making the most of the time we’re given.

I adore this man, I always leave our conversations feeling inspired, & I genuinely think this might be our best episode yet.

I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed recording it.

  • No Warning. No Symptoms. Her Life Gone…

This week on The New Mind, I sit with Big Nick Collins….

In one of the most emotional and powerful episodes of The New Mind Podcast, Nick opens up on the devastating loss of his soulmate and the mother of their children, Beth.

Beth tragically died from a brain aneurysm at just 36 years old.

Nick shares the raw reality of grief, the moment his world changed forever, and what it’s really like to navigate unimaginable heartbreak while trying to remain strong for his children. With remarkable honesty and vulnerability, he opens up about love, trauma, loss, resilience, mental health, fatherhood and the lessons that emerge when life forces you to rebuild from the ground up.

This is a conversation about far more than grief. It’s about the human capacity to survive the unthinkable. It’s about carrying love after loss. It’s about finding purpose in pain and learning how to keep moving forward when every part of you wants to stand still.

If you’ve ever experienced bereavement, loss, trauma, heartbreak, anxiety, depression, or the fear of losing someone you love, this conversation will stay with you.

Nick’s courage, honesty and vulnerability are extraordinary. His story is heartbreaking, inspiring and profoundly human.

  • The Most Emotional Bare Knuckle Fight Story You’ll Ever Hear

What happens when grief, masculinity, pain, purpose, and identity collide in one human being?

In this deeply powerful episode, I sit down with Aaron Ashton, one of the most resilient and emotionally raw voices emerging from British combat sports.

    Aaron’s story isn’t just about fighting….

It’s about survival and it’s about loss.

It’s about what happens to the human mind and body when life pushes you beyond what should be possible.

From brutal setbacks and painful defeats to becoming one of the most talked about names in bare knuckle boxing, Aaron’s journey has been anything but ordinary.

But in February 2026, the world witnessed something far bigger than sport.

Just hours after losing his father, after spending days sitting beside his hospital bed, Aaron stepped into the ring at BKB 51: Heavy Lies The Crown at The O2 Arena.

What happened next stunned the combat sports world!!

Carrying unimaginable grief, Aaron delivered the performance of his life, stopping heavily favoured opponent Brad Donovan.

    The moment went viral worldwide.

But behind the knockout was something much deeper.

    In this conversation we explore:

    * Grief and masculine identity

    * Trauma, emotional suppression, and resilience

    * What fighting teaches you about the human psyche

    * The psychology of pain and pressure

    * Mental strength versus emotional avoidance

    * The reality behind combat sports

    * Fatherhood, loyalty, discipline, and loss

    * What happens when life strips everything back

This is one of the most honest, emotional, and psychologically revealing conversations we’ve had on the podcast.

If you’ve ever battled pain silently, questioned yourself, fought through grief, or tried to stay standing while life was breaking you internally, this episode will stay with you.

    Watch until the end.

In this gripping episode of The New Mind Podcast, I sit down with one of Britain’s most infamous nightclub enforcers……a man who survived decades of violence, organised crime, revenge threats, shootings, and chaos on the doors of some of the UK’s roughest clubs and pubs.

Bullied relentlessly as a child growing up near Ramsgate, he transformed pain into power through boxing, eventually becoming one of the most feared and respected doormen in Southern England.

For over 40 years, he lived in a world most people never see.

    Violence. Gangsters. Knives.

    Guns.

He shares stories from thousands of brutal confrontations, brushes with death, underworld connections, and the psychological toll of living in constant hypervigilance.

This is not just a story about fighting…..It’s a story about trauma, identity, masculinity, survival, and what happens when a human being decides they will never be powerless again.

  • 3 Men Tell the Truth about Addiction, Abuse & Love

What happens when three men sit down and tell the truth, without filters, without performance, and without hiding behind the versions of themselves they once needed to survive…

This episode focuses on three powerful minds for conversations that go far beyond surface level insight.

We explore the reality of addiction, not just as behaviour, but as a response to pain that has not yet been metabolised.

We unpack abuse and narcissistic dynamics, looking at how they shape identity, attachment, and the nervous system.

We move into growth, what it actually takes to face yourself, to dismantle patterns, and to rebuild from a place of awareness rather than survival.

And we speak about love….the grounded, honest, sometimes uncomfortable truth of what it means to give and receive it in a healthy way.

This is real, reflective, and at times confronting.

If you have ever struggled with patterns you can’t seem to break.

If you have questioned your relationships, your past, or your identity.

If you are on a path of growth and want to understand yourself at a deeper level….This episode will meet you where you are.

    Listen with openness…Take what resonates.

Danny Harkins was convicted of serious criminal offences involving coercion, intimidation, kidnapping and violence. This episode doesn’t excuse or justify that reality….

What happened in prison changed Danny….

    Punishment didn’t change him….Reading did.

While in prison, Danny turned to literature, specifically the novels of Emily Brontë and Charlotte Brontë.

The Brontë sisters wrote about obsession, moral consequence, unchecked power, violence and the cost of uncontained desire.

Reading Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre in a prison cell becomes an encounter with the self, not an escape from it.

    We explore:

    • the psychology of serious criminality and identity collapse,

    • how Victorian literature can awaken conscience,

    • why reading can force moral reckoning where authority cannot,

This episode is about criminal psychology, conscience formation, literature as moral confrontation, and the uncomfortable truth that real change begins internally or not at all.

This is not a redemption story…..It is a reckoning.

  • From Flatline to Punchlines... My Life After Near Death

In this episode of The New Mind, I sit down with my friend, THE BRILLIANT Emmanuel Sonubi!

Emmanuel is stand up comedian whose life was abruptly interrupted when he suffered near fatal heart failure on stage during a comedy performance in Dubai.

What begins as a conversation about humour and performance unfolds into an exploration of life, identity, and the cost of living in survival mode for too long.

Emmanuel shares his personal account of years of pressure, addiction driven coping strategies, physical warning signs that were minimised, and the moment his body forced a reckoning he could no longer ignore.

Together, we explore how and why the body always keeps the score when the mind pushes through.

This episode is HILARIOUS, honest, deeply human and essential!!

  • The Pain that Made Me Become a Doctor... Dr Emma Offord's Untold Story

In this episode of The New Mind Podcast, I speak with Dr Emma Offord, clinical psychologist, trauma therapist, sensory practitioner, giftedness profiler, and founder of Divergent Life.

This conversation is deeply personal, beautiful and revealing.

Emma shares her own painful story.

She speaks candidly about the slow, often uncomfortable process of realisation, identity, and change.

This episode explores the personal reckoning behind Emma’s work, and how listening to people’s stories fundamentally reshaped her understanding of care, responsibility, and harm. Emma reflects on the emotional weight of hearing how others had been failed, and how this catalysed a period of deep questioning, dismantling, and reconstruction of everything she thought she knew.

  • How PCOS and Depression Nearly Killed Me

In this episode of The New Mind, I’m joined by Rajni.

Rajni is is someone who has lived inside a body that carried pain, injury, hormonal imbalance, and emotional strain. From PCOS, a neck hernia, sciatica, and vertigo, to navigating anxiety and depression, her journey has been one of deep resilience and recalibration.

What makes Rajni more powerful is her transformation. She learned how to work with her body rather than against it. Through quantified nutrition, intelligent movement, and consistent habits, she didn’t just sculpt her body. She reshaped her entire life.

In this conversation, we explore what real transformation actually requires. Not drastic diets. Not punishing workouts. But understanding how the body functions, how the nervous system responds to stress, and how mental and physical health are inseparable.

Rajni shares how gradual, sustainable change became the foundation of her recovery and strength, and how this philosophy now guides the way she supports others. Her mission is clear. To raise awareness around fitness, mental health, and overall wellbeing, and to help people build strength from the inside out.

This episode is for anyone who feels disconnected from their body, overwhelmed by conflicting advice, or tired of being told to push harder when what they really need is clarity, compassion, and structure.

  • What She Survived Will Shock You. What She Became Will Move You.

Jazzlyn’s life began in the shadows of harm. She was a child who learned cruelty before she ever learned safety. She endured sexual abuse, physical violence, and psychological terror. She was treated like something to be used rather than someone to be loved. She was passed from person to person, stripped of choice, then held hostage with a gun pressed to her head. Her life was reduced to a single question. Live or die.

    She chose to live.

Survival was not a moment for her. It was a long and lonely ascent. It meant stitching together a mind that had been shattered. It meant rebuilding a sense of self that others had tried to erase. It meant finding a voice after years of silence. Jazzlyn’s life is not defined by what was done to her. It is defined by who she became when everything tried to break her.

Today she is a woman who walks with insight, depth, and a fierce understanding of the human spirit. Her story is no longer a wound. It is a testimony. It is evidence of what a mind can become when it refuses to surrender.

On The New Mind, Jazzlyn sits at the intersection of trauma and transformation. She speaks from lived experience and hard earned wisdom. She explores what happens to the brain and body when a person survives the unthinkable, and what becomes possible when healing finally begins. Her voice is steady. Her presence is grounding. Her honesty is liberation for those who have carried their own pain in silence.

This is not a story of tragedy. It is a story of consciousness, reclamation, and the birth of a new mind.

Jazzlyn survived. Now she teaches others how to live.
