Kabbalah for Christ’s Sake

Season 1 | Episode 8
27m | Jun 25, 2026

Jewish texts, mystical names of God, and a bold new argument: Pietro Galatino transforms Christian Kabbalah into a tool of doctrinal renewal.

Set against the debates over Hebrew learning and the authority of Jewish tradition, this episode explores Galatino’s Opus de Arcanis Catholicae Veritatis as a work poised between polemic, philology, and reform. From the Reuchlin controversy to his use of Talmud, Midrash, Kabbalah, and contested sources such as the Epistola de Secretis, it shows how Galatino reworked older anti-Jewish arguments into a broader search for hidden Christian truth. At the center stands his claim that the mysteries of the Christian faith, above all the Trinity and the divinity of Christ, could be uncovered through the very Jewish texts the Church had long regarded with suspicion.
