Sorcerers: William Blake
William Blake (1757–1827):
William Blake was an English poet, painter, and engraver born in London. He developed a method of relief etching that combined poetry and images on copper plates. His wife, Catherine, helped print and color his books. His major works include Songs of Innocence and of Experience, The Marriage of Heaven and Hell, and Jerusalem. Drawing on his reported visions and an original spiritual mythology, Blake explored imagination, religious authority, and social injustice. Largely neglected during his lifetime, he became a major figure in English poetry and art.
