Neil Shenvi: Apologetics and Defending Your Faith
55m | Jun 6, 2023On this episode of The Bounce, Neil Shenvi explores the philosophical debate surrounding the problem of evil and God's role in defining morality. The speaker addresses "defeater beliefs" like the claim that evolution disproves God. Later, the episode delves into the importance of a historical Adam in the story of Christ and the doctrine of salvation. Additionally, the speaker discusses rational Christian apologetics and engaging with different audiences.
Neil Shenvi graduated from Princeton with a spiritual outlook but without religious beliefs. He met his wife, Christina, there who was a devout Christian. After falling in love with her, he began attending church with her, where he met Christians who were intellectually advanced and forced him to consider whether Christianity was true. Reading C.S. Lewis' "Screwtape Letters" repeatedly helped him understand Christianity and human nature. He struggled with questions about Christianity but Christina's admission that she didn't have all the answers showed him that she was worshipping a real God and not a God created by her. This led him to believe that Christianity might truly be the objective truth.
