Dow Jones, S&P 500 Futures Rise, Nasdaq 100 Falls as US-Iran Tensions Escalate— DELL, PANW, MDB, AVGO in Focus
3m | Sep 2, 2026U.S. stock futures declined on Wednesday, as the Dow Jones, S&P 500 indices rose and Nasdaq 100 index fell, following Tuesday's lower close.
U.S. private payrolls increased by just 38,000 jobs in August, marking the slowest pace of job creation since January as job losses in manufacturing, professional services, and information weighed on growth.
Energy markets surged following an exchange of U.S. airstrikes and Iranian counterattacks in the Middle East, pushing Brent crude up 0.55% to $95.17 a barrel. Threatening global oil supplies, Tehran retaliated against U.S. bases after military strikes targeted Iranian capabilities in response to shipping attacks.
Meanwhile, the 10-year Treasury bond yielded 4.81%, and the two-year bond was at 4.4%. The CME Group’s FedWatch tool projections show markets pricing in a 68.1% likelihood of the Federal Reserve hiking interest rates at its September meeting.
The SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE: SPY) and Invesco QQQ Trust ETF (NASDAQ: QQQ), which track the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100, respectively, were higher in premarket on Wednesday. The SPY was up 0.14% at $762.86, while the QQQ advanced by 0.031% to $707.86.
