Phil Mathew is a professor of history at Joliet Junior College specializing in the military and political history of Ancient Greece and Rome. His research interests include warfare and society, relationships between soldiers and commanders, and intelligence gathering in the Roman army. His graduate research at Norwich University examined Julius Caesar’s use of military intelligence during the Gallic War.
