27m | Sep 9, 2026

In this episode of Rewinding History, we take a look at the strange, clever, and sometimes downright ridiculous ways Rome raised money. Who actually collected the taxes? Why did some people become extremely wealthy from the system? And what happened when you couldn't—or simply refused—to pay?

The Roman Empire needed an enormous amount of money to keep itself running. And they got creative about finding it.
