Kevin was a cross-country and track team-mate of Beards and Dun from their SDSU days who seemingly overnight went from a model of good health to being faced with needing a heart transplant. Lori's book Change of Heart tells the story of Kevin's five year health battle from her perspective with the goal to provide other caregivers and family members facing long medical crises the perseverance to overcome uncertainties.

    This week on the podcast Beards and Dun get a chance to speak with the one and only Richard Benyo who joins us via phone call to discuss his amazing history with the sport of running. Rich Benyo was the editor of Marathon & Beyond, the author of more than two dozen books, mostly in the areas of fitness, health, and running, and a veteran of 37 marathons. In 1989 he and his running partner Tom Crawford became the first lunatics to run from Badwater in Death Valley (lowest point in the Western Hemisphere and hottest place on Earth) to the peak of Mt. Whitney (at 14,494 feet the highest point in the contiguous U.S.) and back, a distance of 300 miles.

    On this episode of the podcast Beards and Dun visit with the legendary Bob Bartling. Bob is a very fit and sharp 97 years young!! His story is amazing! He was an outstanding high school athlete, a WW II veteran, a successful businessman and he returned to athletics (running) in his 40's and he hasn't stopped. He owns a 2:45 marathon best in the 34 marathons he has completed. He was the driving force behind the Prairie Striders Running Club as its first president and then treasurer for the next 40 years! He also established the first Nike shoe dealership in the state of South Dakota in 1971.
