COLE KMET INJURY CHANGES EVERYTHING?! Rome Becomes Caleb’s CLOSER + Santos SAVES Bears

28m | Oct 23, 2026

The Chicago Bears are 5-2 after defeating the New England Patriots 30-24 on Thursday Night Football, but the biggest stories coming out of the win go far beyond the final score.

On today’s episode of Chicago Bears Central, Haize breaks down three major developments that could shape the Bears offense and special teams moving forward.

🚨 COLE KMET INJURY

Cole Kmet suffered a right knee injury late in Thursday night’s win and had to be carted to the locker room. Ben Johnson said afterward that the injury did not look good, although the Bears still needed more information and the exact diagnosis was not known at the time of the episode notes.

Kmet finished with only three receptions for 28 yards, but his value to Chicago goes far beyond the box score.

His blocking, pass protection, red-zone versatility and ability to pair with Colston Loveland in 12 personnel give Ben Johnson options before the football is even snapped.

So if Kmet misses meaningful time, could Chicago’s entire offensive structure change?

And could his absence actually make life HARDER for Colston Loveland instead of simply creating more targets?

🔥 ROME ODUNZE BECOMING CALEB’S CLOSER?

Luther Burden III stole the headlines with four catches for 130 yards and a touchdown, but Rome Odunze made some of Chicago’s most important plays late.

Rome finished with four receptions for 69 yards, but three of those catches came in the fourth quarter — and all three went for 21 yards.

Caleb Williams continued going back to Rome in critical situations, including multiple third downs, despite Odunze having an earlier offensive pass-interference penalty.

Is that becoming something bigger?

Could Rome Odunze be emerging as the receiver Caleb trusts most when Chicago absolutely NEEDS a completion?

🦵 CAIRO SANTOS: HERO OR CONCERN?

Cairo Santos missed from 53 yards earlier in the game, then came back and drilled a career-long 58-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter to turn Chicago’s six-point lead into a nine-point advantage.

It was one of the biggest kicks of the game.

But Santos is now 11-of-15 on field goals this season — just 73.3% — after converting 83.3% in 2025 and 92.1% in 2023. He remains perfect on extra points at 21-for-21.

So what should Bears fans trust more?

The clutch 58-yarder?

Or the season-long field-goal percentage?
