This week, Bri & Alli dive into The Miserable Mill, comparing Lemony Snicket’s grim, darkly comedic novel with its visually striking, delightfully theatrical Netflix series adaptation. Set behind the splinter-covered gates of the Lucky Smells Lumbermill, the story follows the Baudelaire orphans as they navigate grueling child labor, an eerily hypnotic optometrist, and Count Olaf’s latest scheme fraught with terrible disguises, sinister agendas, and a very dangerous circular saw. 

 

Synopsis: 

The Baudelaire siblings are sent to work at a grim lumber mill, where they face 

dangerous working conditions and a suspicious foreman who seems connected to the 

mysterious Count Olaf. As they uncover hidden secrets about the mill and its workers, 

they begin to realize that Olaf’s disguises and schemes may be closer than they think. 

Trapped in another bleak situation, the children must rely on their intelligence and 

teamwork to survive and uncover the truth.
