  • Reclaiming the UNcivilized Man with Traver Boehm

Episode 338: Traver Boehm – https://www.manuncivilized.com – knows men. How they think, what’s behind their behavior, and most importantly — their unique challenges in the modern landscape. Traver is the founder of the UNcivilized Men’s Movement, the fastest growing men’s movement in the world. He is the author of Today I Rise, and Man UNcivilized as well as a two time TEDx speaker, men’s coach and podcaster.

In the last episode, I had the opportunity to be interviewed by Traver Boehm, and for this one, we have changed spots. In this episode, Traver is here to talk to us about The UNcivilized Man Reclaim. You will hear and learn about primitivity, relationships, safety, and much more!

    • Opinions like "I will rather be a sacred slut than an empire-building girl boss" can make women angry, thinking that we are against each other when it is not.
    • As women, we are used to fighting for acceptance, which is exhausting. But -- we have nothing to prove to them.
    • The inspiration behind The Uncivilized Man Movement is the primitive man dealing with unexpressed emotions and pain.
    • One of Traver's passions is to help men connect their emotions and feelings to something bigger than themselves so that they can be a better person.
    • Traver wants to thank every woman who's bought his book and spread his message.
    • With power comes great responsibility, and being in a man's body does bring great power. In other words, don't apologize for being born as a man. Do something good with it.
    • The Uncivilized Man Movement's mantra is to let others feel safe as you walk among them.
    • Biology exists, and it needs to be recognized. For that reason, no matter how many books we read and how much money we make, our biology has to be tended to.
    • What can we do for men? Encourage, celebrate and support them.
    • All men have a green light and a red light inside of them.
    • A couple fighting to be in the alpha role will cause harm to the relationship. As a result, it is going to be a power struggle and a pissing contest.
    • For Traver, the depth of the word "safety" is something he had to learn by himself. Now, he helps men to comprise and create it.
    • Traver Boehm is perplexed by the state of our culture. Right now, he feels people are digging their heels against the pendulum — a kind of middle ground unto itself.
    • "The women are the message spreaders of the world."
    • Traver feels that as the dominant in the room, men are responsible for the women. That is to say, men must take care of them.

    • Traver will also appear on Mind Body Musings soon.
    • Speaking to an audience who may be unfamiliar with her, Madelyn discusses her study in yogic intimacy and her upbringing in purity culture.
    • Purity culture is essentially slut-shaming at its core, wholesale denial of feminine sexuality.
    • An extension of this is also the way that women speak of each other and their gender. "I'm not like most girls," or, "Don't worry; I'm not crazy."
    • During her time in bodybuilding, Madelyn found that having been raised to believe and assume that men are "better" than women was contributing to her building physical armor around her emotional truth.
    • Being unable to cope with the "curvature of life" manifested as OCD; living through an eating disorder manifested because of being unable to cope with the curvature of body.
    • A woman revealing to her partner the part of her that is "lost," she is letting go of everything her body has been taught/forced/compelled to do.
    • Being able to be sharp and then go into softness is part of the privilege of being a man.

    • First Stage: Reactive, the way most people are interacting.
    • When one feels triggered, repressive reaction, silent treatment, withholding love, punishing, spiritual bypassing.
    • Second Stage: Everyone needs more of this - talk therapy, clear, "When you did X, I felt Y, and I desire ..."
    • This is formatted and structured - very much in the masculine domain.
    • Third Stage: revealing truth as a gift to our partner.
    • Instead of an accusatory, "You always do this to me," transformed into a statement in the name of love, with love.
    • Madelyn has worked on connecting to the part of her that's heartbroken. The heartbroken part is the same part that wants to be an offering.
    • "There's no part of heartbroken-ness that wants distance.

Episode 336: Yogic intimacy and Tantra are spiritual embodiment practices that both encompass and extend beyond sex. Madelyn has been focusing on Tantra to complement the Yogic intimacy work she's been engaged with for years. Learning just basic physical intimacy is a challenge for many of us, let alone exploring and enhancing by engaging the physical with the spiritual, and the masculine with the feminine. Madelyn has been focused more on her TikTok and Instagram these days, as she's been using visual components to teach these concepts. In this episode Madelyn catches up on what she's been up to and explores some tools and practices available to bring art to our intimacy.

    • In Tantra you are vitalized by multiple orgasms, but physical ejaculation is depleting.

  • How the Bold Masculine Captivates the Feminine

Episode 334: As more and more of us as individuals and as a society become aware of our own feminine/masculine and engaging in conscious embodiment, the path to equilibrium in a relationship can sometimes feel like it's become more and more difficult. The "bold masculine" impulse to operate by mandates, to organize and structure, can conflict with the more important and valuabe acts of simply being present.

In this episode, originally recorded for The Rising Man podcast, Madelyn and host Jeddy Azuma discuss boundaries, the bold masculine, and the intersection of embodiment and intimacy.

    • There's a workshop next week - Artistic Intimacy - maddymoon.com/artistic
    • If you're interested in using feminine (energy) and masculine (consciousness) energetics in your day-to-day life, know that there's a playful way to handle conflict in your relationship, and are fed up with closed-hearted "lol okay" statements but don't know how to escape that space, this workshop is for you.
    • What is the difference between a boy and a man?
    • A boy has energy of either tiptoeing or stomping on eggshells.
    • A man is more even-keel eggshell walking, more confident, more present in himself, more breath in the way he'll live his life.
    • His presence allows her to be more at ease.
    • Madelyn had to reprogram her constructs from upbringing - that certain emotions were "wrong."
    • When she started on her embodiment path, she learned to use her physical body to reveal anger, reveal grief.
    • This led to her presenting herself in relationships more in real time, avoiding language that leans on shame and blame.
    • The masculine can be characterized as consciousness, depth, nothingness - the container.
    • The feminine can be characterized as energy, motion, chaos - what fills the container.
    • Women often get caught off guard when a man finally arrives at being in touch with his emotions, which can lead to defensiveness from both.
    • Whoever is more consumed and focused on more love in the relationship, is the one in the feminine.
    • You cannot be penetrated by life when you're constantly setting up boundaries - think of a sandbox instead.
    • Setting boundaries is not about trying to create separation and walls.
    • Men can feel dry and boring after too much focus on providing the stability they perceive as being asked of them, and deprioritizing adventure.
    • Women want your truth - don't say yes if you mean no.
    • Feeling the "no" within a "yes" is damaging to trust in a relationship.
    • Be authentically present through eye contact, aftercare, awareness, not necessarily analyzing and structuring.
    • Sometimes the more valuable work is done by not "working" on it, but being present for it.

    • Every morning, Genevieve starts her day alone in her own space, and claims the day with three hours of orgasms - no computer or phone until 11:00 AM.
    • When she was a teenager, Genevieve would spend nights at punk shows, but go home early enough to get to ballet class the next morning.
    • At first she felt there was a dichotomy between these two activities, but she came to realize they were both an expression of the same thing.
    • Genevieve knew even as a young child that she was meant to change the world.
    • She didn't know in which path she'd make this impact, so she did as many different things as possible.
    • Genevieve didn't grow up familiar with the concept of "safety" and was molested and raped multiple times.
    • She only knew sex as violence and pain until later in life.
    • There was no relationship of her body beyond a tool to be used.
    • Genevieve was homeless briefly at age 16. A girlfriend at 18 suggested she explore becoming a dominatrix.
    • At this point is when she stepped into her own sexual power. "Oh, my sex isn't for other people."
    • Previously sex had largely been transactional, not done for enjoyment.
    • Now she was able to use people's kinks (often expression of pain and trauma as a filter to experience pleasure through) to bring them through their trauma and into healing.
    • Genevieve was raped at age 13, but didn't consciously acknowledge it as such until later in life.
    • She was later able reclaim it through work with a partner.
    • When people who are not experiencing pleasure due to trauma are able to reclaim it, they invariably realize that it was because they were terrified of the power of their pleasure. They were protecting themselves from pleasure.
    • She had to learn how to be intimate and gentle with herself.
    • Many of Genevieve's mentors are much older, and the death of one of these friends and guides became a regular and frequent reality for her.
    • Genevieve has been non-monogamous (Shapeshifter Erotic Blueprint) for as long as she can remember - her lovers are like family or best friends.
    • Her partner was new to even the concept, so it has been a process of communication, acknowledging triggers will occur and utilize them to confront their fears together.

  • Islam and Eroticism with Rotana

Episode 332: Rotana is a Saudi Arabian performance artist, singer and songwriter. Born and raised in Saudi Arabia, she moved to Los Angeles five years ago to pursue music after quitting her job at Saudi Aramco, the largest oil company in the world. She is currently working on her one woman show/musical, Alien of Extraordinary Ability (named after her immigration status), and her debut album which just released her latest singles Sin Again and Stuck in America.

Rotana describes herself as an initiator, an erotic being, and a liberator. As an artist that reckons daily with the experience of “other”, she is determined to give movement, sound, beauty and witness to that experience. After premiering her one woman show at FORM, a world renowned festival featuring artists and poets like Aja Monet and Florence and The Machine, she received the attention of publications like GQ noting that Rotana “delivered one of the most spine-tingling performances of the entire FORM festival.” She has also collaborated with brands including Fendi, Miu Miu, Lucky Brand, and more. Rotana has been named one of BBC’s 100 most powerful women and covered by GQ, LA Weekly, Huffington Post, Vice Arabia, Vogue Arabia, NPR, and AJ+. Her performances have spanned cities globally including Paris, Abu Dhabi, Los Angeles, New York, and at the Sundance Music Festival. Straddling a profound love for her home and the determination to be free, Rotana’s music speaks to the journey of self realization in the face of Saudi tradition, God, sexuality, family and the immigrant experience.

  • The Heroine's Journey

Episode 331: Most of us know about the Hero's Journey, the narrative template wherein the "hero" undergoes a series of patterns by which he actually becomes the hero. But what about the heroine? In special episode, Madelyn presents one of her full sessions from Sisu Society, outlining how to consider your own truth and story through the lens of the Heroine's Journey as described by authors Maureen Murdock and Camy Tang.

    • You have probably been living The Heroine's Journey unconsciously your entire life.
    • The Hero's Journey is about what a man will endure through his life to become his own hero.

    • Author Maureen Murdock disagrees with this somewhat and believes there's more to it. Get the book The Heroine's Journey here - https://amzn.to/2YZPXA7
    • The Hero's Journey is about "things that happen," while The Heroine's Journey is more about transformation, disembodying and associating.
    • Women's leadership and women's sexuality are two prominent fronts in the modern Heroine's Journey.
    • Write or consider your own story as fiction.
    • This allows you to get distance from it, as well as explore concepts and areas you might avoid or not give yourself permission to explore in nonfictional consideration, such as memoir.
    • Madelyn then walks through Camy Tang's Heroine's Journey worksheet - available here: maddymoon.com/camy-tang-worksheet
    • Number one: the illusion of the perfect world.
    • Think of a time before a big change - what was something you needed, that you didn't know at the time?
    • What archetype were you inhabiting at the time?
    • Number two: separation from the feminine, something that "jarringly separates you from the voice in your womb."
    • Not necessarily traumatic or bad, but something that changed your path - the call to adventure.
    • What is the thing that happened to you? And how did you lose what you cared about, what you thought you needed to have?
    • Don't judge yourself - this isn't about guilt or correction. Focus on what it's bringing up for you.
    • Number three: the point of no return, and the preparation of the journey.
    • The identification of the masculine.
    • When did you separate from the feminine and how did you identify with the masculine?
    • Number four: the descent - the journey into the underworld.
    • This is the part where you'll experience the most trials.
    • Number five: the illusion of success.
    • Life is full of exquisite expansion and contraction, and going into contraction isn't failure or a less important part than the expansion or success.
    • Number six: death.
    • All is lost, the black moment.
    • All is taken, the ultimate bathroom-floor breakdown, divine opening.
    • This is the moment where you are face-to-face with the ultimate fork in the road or inflection point.
    • Number seven: surrender.
    • You've surrendered, and your "spiritual team" rallies around you, and you come back into the feminine.
    • Number eight: healing with the mother, rebirth, and healing with the wounded masculine.
    • Now coming into the space of conscious masculinity in rhythm with the feminine.
    • Now it's about coming back into the world.
    • Number nine: return to the perfect world, master of two worlds, freedom to live, final reward, integration.
    • Think about your relationship with the feminine at different stages compared to it now.
    • Be present even in the chaos.

  • Stop Waiting for a "Conscious Man" to Open You

Episode 329: If you're on a self-aware and overt path of energy and relationship work, it can be both a challenge to grow if your partner isn't a "conscious man" on the same path, hasn't read the same books, attended the same workshops, and cultivated the same awareness of intimacy dynamics. However, there's also a great opportunity there, since if both partners are doing the same work very consciously, it can lead to a stilted sense of rigidity and overwhelming self-consciousness. It's okay if you carry these ideas more consciously than your partner!

In this episode Madelyn explores this concept, covers the trouble spots as well as the benefits, and how to align your sensibilities to enhance your intimacy and stop waiting for the perfect conscious man.

The pressures of content creation and consumption on social media can leave us feeling disconnected with the pure joy of creation and enjoying content.
