fighting your girlfriends father

Some of my jokes come off more mean spirited than I'd like. Humor seams to play an important role in the dissecting of the world around us. There are things that need to be cut down. There seems to even be people that need to be cut down. But how do you go about cutting something down, while holding on to hope that it will be built up better than it was before?
