  • Why do we judge ourselves by our intentions but judge others by their actions?

Why do we judge ourselves by our intentions but judge others by their actions?

Are humans naturally wired to see the negatives in the actions of others or do we somehow demonstrate our cognitive bias towards our own actions by justifying them with our intentions?

Ashlea and I once again explore this topic in the only way we know how...by talking in circles and getting no know haha!

  • Body Positivity Movement! The big, the bold and the beautiful!?

Ashlea is back by popular demand! In this second episode we discuss the 'Body positivity movement' and how it has changed the way bodies are viewed, accepted and criticised. We talk about how social media has skewed the perception of what is healthy, beautiful and ideal. We explore issues of beauty standards within the modern world and then wander off to discuss mukbangs, eating disorders and heaven knows what else! Hope you enjoy!

Body positivity is a social movement focused on the acceptance of all bodies, regardless of size, shape, skin tone, gender, and physical abilities, while challenging present-day beauty standards as an undesirable social construct. Proponents focus on the appreciation of the functionality and health of the human body, instead of its physiological appearance.

  • Does pure altruism exist?

In this first episode of Long Form, I have the privilege of hosting Ashlea!

Ashlea is a colleague of mine at work with a real interest in human psychology. We often spend countless hours discussing different facets of human psyche, human behavior and try to understand why people do what they do! This is especially pertinent given our work within the criminal justice system!

One of the greatest philosophers of our time, Bertrand Russell, has defined true altruism as ‘acts which promote, directly or indirectly, the well-being of other people'.

In this episode, Ashlea and I delve into what altruism looks like for us and share some of our views about how the rise of social media has perhaps altered intrinsic altruistic behaviors. Oh and we really went off the rail on this episode! ;)
