• Ep. 15 - Butterfly Effect

  • Ep 13 - Notes from Phoneland

We've all wondered if our phones are making us worse humans, suspecting that they tank our attention spans and and interrupt social connections.  We dig into and also give our phones some shout outs for the ways that they help us become better people.  We also dig into screen time in general, the ergonomics of working on computers full time, even get to talk about healthy gaming habits.

  • Ep. 12 - Apocalyptic Thinking

On this episode, Robin and Arjuna cover the millennial phenomenon known as apocalyptic thinking. We touch upon the origins of the phenomenon, cover some of its expressions throughout the last 2500 years, and ruminate on current iterations of apocalyptic thought. The listener is asked to consider the ways in which they fall prey to apocalyptic fixation, and what the impulse is that propels it. Are our revelations world-ending? Let us know!

  • Ep. 11 - Nuclear Energy Revisited

Will nuclear power mishaps like Chernobyl and Fukushima bring about an early Armageddon? Or is it our best chance to avoid further climate catastrophe? Arjuna and Robin hash out the bright side and the not so bright side of nuclear energy and look at just how it measures up against other energy source options.

Update: We say in the show that 10% of electricity came from the Megatons to Megawatts program.  I fact checked this and sources say "up to 10%", so it probably was quite a bit lower than that for parts of the program's 2 decade life cycle.

Some people think our show is real long, so we cut 20 minutes out and put it in it's own mini-show.  There.  Happy now?  Lol.  Enjoy.

These extras include some talk about how to keep anxiety and depression in check and how these phenomena may be related to a very curious netork of areas in the brain called the default mode network.  Faaaaascinating...

Also, Arjuna illuminates the history of an early indiginous ambassodor of psilocybin use to western counter culture with the story of María Sabina.

  • Ep. 9 - Microdosing

Millions of Americans use psychedelics very year to dramatically shift their consciousness in order to explore themselves and have our of this world experiences, but many have been turning to these substances for subtle, imperceptable and reportedly therapeutic effects at smaller doses.  We interview many and have discussions about the effects of psilocybin mushrooms and LSD on productivity as well as mental health, depression, and PTSD.  Is LSD the next coffee?  Are mushrooms the new prozac?  Join us and our friends to see what insights we've gained see what questions need to continue to be explored.

Naturally, those interviewed for this episode preferred to remain anonymous due to the contraband status of psycheledics, therefore I will be thanking them for their very generous and insightful contributions by their codenames.

Thank you Space Dog, Molly, Anonymous Periwinkle, Anonymous Dude 1, and to Saumuel Taylor Raine LeClaire.

If you're looking for further information, one book you could look into would be "A really good day" by Ayelet Waldman from 2017.  Another is the Psychedelic Explorer's guide by James Fadiman which was published in 2011.

  • Ep. 7 - Storming Area 51

Could some UFOs actually be from outer space? Is the United States government covering up first contact from the world? How do we even begin to navigate who to believe and who to shrug off when it comes to first hand accounts of aliens, UFOs, and top-secret government facilities? And last but not least, should we storm Area 51?!  In ep 7 we explore some facts and history and employ wildly tangential thoughts lines to bound these and other pressing question in our corner of the galaxy.

We tried to make this episode serve as a pretty good primer to the whole subject of Area 51 and UFOs, so if you've been feeling like a poser with your tin foil hat, you'll come to the right place to get caught up!

  • Ep. 5 - Fermi Paradox

Where are they!?  The aliens, that is.  So far we haven't heard a peep, well at least the scientific community and Robin and Arjuna haven't.  In this episode we explore the manifold possibilities of life of other planets, the difficulties that face any life form with interstellar ambitions, and the many, many pitfalls that might prevent them from growing noggins big enough to even consider the possibility in the first place.  Will we undermine our survival before we can reach the stars?  Will aliens find us first?  Are we worthy of reaching the rank of star-faring civilization?  Join Arjuna and Robin in their discussion to get to the bottom of it all.
