They could cleanse the flesh, but they could not cleanse the conscience.Hebrews 9:11–15 shows us what changed when Christ came.The Levitical high priest entered an earthly sanctuary repeatedly with the blood of animals. Christ entered the greater and more perfect heavenly sanctuary ἐφάπαξ (ephapax)—once for all—through His own blood, obtaining eternal redemption.This is the great contrast of the passage:The old system provided external cleansing.
