Season 3: Episode 2 | Do You Know What Your Practice Could Actually Earn?

16m | Aug 24, 2026

Do you know what your practice could realistically earn — or do you simply know what comes into your account each month?

In this episode, Anne and Phumla explore what they call “The Invisible Ceiling”: the gap between what your practice is currently earning and what it could earn if your time, capacity, services and rates were structured more intentionally.

Through real-world healthcare practice scenarios, they unpack why a full diary doesn't necessarily mean you're operating at your potential, how becoming the one-person bottleneck can limit your practice, and why understanding your numbers is an essential part of shifting from thinking purely as a clinician to leading your practice as a CEO.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • How to calculate the realistic earning potential — or “ceiling” — of your practice.
  • Why knowing what you earn today isn't enough to make informed decisions about your future.
  • How to identify your personal “enough number” and use it to set a meaningful financial target.
  • Why the gap between your current earnings, your enough number and your earning potential is valuable business information.
  • How protecting dedicated time for CEO work can help you make more intentional decisions about pricing, capacity, delegation and growth.

Your challenge this week:

Set aside one focused hour and start putting real numbers behind your practice.

  • Calculate what your practice could realistically earn in a well-structured month.
  • Work out your “enough number” — what you actually need to earn to live comfortably, meet your commitments and feel financially secure.
  • Compare those numbers with what you're earning now.
  • Ask yourself: What is the gap, and what is it telling me about where my attention needs to go next?

The gap isn't a failure. It's data. And once you can see it clearly, you can start making more deliberate decisions about the practice you're building.
