- Ep 03: You Can't Clean What You Can't Reach
If your body has become too difficult to care for, you are not alone, you are not disgusting, and you are not beyond hope. In this honest episode of Grace on Her Plate, Melanie talks about a reality many women living with severe obesity experience but rarely discuss: personal hygiene, mobility, body shame, fear of odor, skin irritation, bathing, intimacy, and the fear of becoming dependent on others for basic care.
Melanie shares from her own lived experience as a woman whose weight fluctuated across many seasons of life, including times when she weighed more than 300 pounds. She also brings nearly 50 years of hospital experience as a respiratory therapist, where she has seen how obesity, limited mobility, skin-fold irritation, sleep apnea, and difficulty reaching parts of the body can affect comfort, health, dignity, relationships, and independence.
This episode is not about humiliation, blame, or diet culture. It is about naming a painful issue with compassion so it no longer has to live in secrecy. Melanie speaks directly to women who may be tired of dieting, pills, plans, shame, and the fear that nothing will ever change. Her message is simple: you do not have to stay trapped in diet trauma or accept a life that makes caring for yourself feel impossible.
In this episode, Melanie discusses:
- Why personal hygiene can become physically difficult with severe obesity.
- The practical challenges of using the restroom, bathing, showering, mobility, balance, and self-care.
- Skin-fold rashes, discomfort, odor concerns, and the importance of compassionate medical support.
- How obesity-related limitations can affect confidence, relationships, affection, intimacy, and social connection.
- Why the fear of depending on loved ones for personal care can become a wake-up call.
- How shame and secrecy can keep women from seeking support.
- Why this conversation is not about mocking or blaming anyone.
- How diet trauma, repeated weight cycling, and decades of failed plans can leave women feeling hopeless.
- Why healing your relationship with food, your body, and God can be the starting point for a healthier and more independent life
If this episode feels personal, please hear this: you do not have to transform your life in one day, and you do not have to do it through shame. You can begin with honesty, compassion, support, and one next step toward caring for the body and life God has entrusted to you.

16m - Oct 13, 2026 - Ep 02; My Salvation Story
In this powerful Christian testimony, Melanie shares the most important moment of her life: the day she says she was saved, healed, and filled with the Holy Spirit. Raised without a consistent church background, Melanie’s story took an unexpected turn when she moved to South Korea as a young military wife, met Christian missionaries, and began volunteering with deaf orphan children.
While living alone in a Korean village, Melanie became severely ill with what she later learned was viral meningitis. After days of fever, pain, vomiting, and physical weakness, she attended a Korean engagement celebration hosted by missionary friends. When her condition worsened, the missionaries prayed for her and brought her back to her room. In pain and unsure whether God was even real, Melanie prayed a simple prayer. She says that her fever broke, the pain left, and she was completely healed in that moment.
This episode is a testimony of God’s grace, healing, salvation, faith, and the truth that God can meet us where we are, even when our faith feels small or our words are imperfect. Melanie’s experience is not presented as a formula, but as her personal story of encountering Christ and having her life transformed.
In this episode, you will hear:
- Melanie’s childhood experience with faith, church, and Vacation Bible School.
- Why she was drawn to South Korea from a young age.
- How she moved to South Korea at 18 and began volunteering with deaf orphan children.
- Her encounters with missionaries whose lives were centered on faith in God.
- The illness she later understood to be viral meningitis.
- The prayer that changed her life: “If there is a God, I wish He would heal me.”
- Her account of instant healing, salvation, and being filled with the Holy Spirit.
- Why God’s grace is not earned by saying the perfect prayer or having perfect faith.
- An encouragement for believers to remember their salvation story.
- A message of hope for anyone considering asking Christ to change their life.
If you have a salvation testimony, take a moment to remember the grace God has shown you. If you are seeking God, know that you do not need perfect words to begin. You can come honestly, right where you are.

15m - Oct 6, 2026 - Ep 01: Origin
What happens when decades of dieting, weight struggles, and shame begin to stand between you and the life God is calling you to live?
In the very first episode of Grace on Her Plate, Melanie shares her deeply personal journey with obesity, diet trauma, body image, faith, and her complicated relationship with food. After spending nearly a lifetime searching for the next diet, doctor, program, or outside solution, she realized that lasting change had to begin somewhere completely different—within herself and through her relationship with God.
Melanie opens up about experiencing extreme weight fluctuations, bariatric surgeries, bulimia, countless diets, and years of feeling physically, mentally, and emotionally defeated. More importantly, she explains how obesity became a barrier to participating fully in her family, serving others, pursuing ministry, and boldly stepping into what she believes God called her to do.
In this episode, you'll hear why Melanie decided to walk away from traditional diet culture and begin creating a personalized framework centered around her unique life, food preferences, body, and faith.
You'll discover:
• Why constantly searching for the “perfect diet” can leave you feeling defeated
• How diet trauma can impact your relationship with food and your body
• The connection between body struggles, confidence, faith, and purpose
• Why someone else's eating plan may not work for your real life
• How Melanie began creating a food relationship that came from within instead of another set of outside rules
• Why your relationship with food, your body, and God can affect how boldly you pursue your calling
