- Remembering 9/11 - 25th Anniversary
This was a very special episode remembering the 25th anniversary of 9/11 with 2 of my closest friends. Both Eric and Henrik had different experiences that day with incredible and harrowing stories. One thing they both came to the same conclusions to was the indomitable human spirit that New Yorkers and Americans had at that time - Selflessness, generosity , bravery, helpfulness, courageousness and compassion. Even as we recounted one of the worst days of our lives, we looked towards the good in humanity and hopefully one day we can get back there.

Nick Anderson of Nanda Knives is back after way too long. Nick is a blacksmith with a history as a glass Artist. 2 years ago we talked about his early days making glass objects to sell in school and how Nick wanted to incorporate glass into his knife handles. Recently he just started making glass handles and we talked this exciting direction plus his new collaborations with Flame work Artist Eusheen Goines. I’m back from another amazing trip from Barcelona teaching a workshop with my brother Tomer Botner from Florentine Kitchen Knives. We had a fantastic time with the students as it’s a different style of class structure. Tomer called in to recap the workshop and all the aspects of making people who have never made knives before get the experience of what it takes to bring one home. Every part was exciting and we talk about the sharpening process that each student got a lot out of. We talked about his local collaborators like Chef Borja and his Tattooist Roger. We talked about what’s next for Florentine and even hit on the Knicks off season moves to hopefully get back to the NBA finals. Many thanks to my bro and his wonderful family and I can’t wait to see you all again

This week was a recap of our trip to Tokyo to visit our daughter who’s studying abroad. It was an incredible time and a new perspective on the connection between the culture, government and city itself.
The food was better than expected, people were so polite and the infrastructure supporting everything was clean, efficient and top of the line. It was amazing seeing our daughter create a life there and maturing into a confident global citizen. We’ll be back.

Chris Zeppieri is the guy behind Make Everything Shop- a full service fabrication shop and content maker. I’ve known Chris for a while and he’s become a great friend who builds literally everything including his family! We had a great conversation about the birth of his newest addition, fatherhood and the fun part of the different stages of raising daughters. We also talked about how Chris’s early days a professional BMX rider helped strengthen his character in taking risks. Chris has years of fearlessness in completing dangerous stunts, with the understanding that mistakes can equal pain and injury. The desire to succeed in the face of impending pain is the mindset of a fearless person who isn’t afraid to Make Everything.

A conversation came up on Knife Talk podcast about Lego and if the world renowned company changed direction by minimizing the creativity for the user and pushed for instruction/ kit based focus. It jogged some memories of the great Lego Riot of 1981 and the violence that ensued in my first grade class. I also covered a very vivid and traumatic event in the time when Lego introduced the coveted blue astronaut while little Geoffy finds out where babies come from.

I just got back from staying with Ben Snure and his family on the Texas Ranch he works on and it was an incredible time. West Texas is beautiful & wild with moments of terrifying desolation. The Snure family are incredibly resourceful, self reliant and fantastic. We ate extremely well, forged, drove around and I watched as Ben tended to the cattle. Then we went to the World Championship Blacksmith forging competition where we watched the best farriers in the world compete in a 3 day event that highlighted the most technical aspects of forging in the game. Many thanks to Ben and his wonderful family for your gracious hospitality and friendship. Looking forward to going back.

My man Jesse Savage is back and we had a great conversation. Not only is Jesse a great blacksmith but he’s on a fantastic Podcast called “The Blacksmith’s Pub” with our guy Rick Barter. The last episode they talked bout the 2 year passing of our friend Dave Kurdyla. It was a great listen and in this episode, we were able to add some more stories of Dave and CMA before their change in direction. I was honored to have been able to know Dave when he started forging and see his evolution as a skilled Blacksmith. It’s always great catching up with Jesse and hope to have him back soon.
