Episode 76 Beyond the Badge: Juan Ignacio Gonzalez | From Marine & CPD Detective to School Board Candidate

On this episode of Duty Beyond Duty, host Manny Guzman sits down with Juan Ignacio Gonzalez—a United States Marine Corps veteran, Chicago Police Detective, Southwest Side parent, small business owner, and candidate for the Chicago Board of Education in District 8B.

Juan shares his journey from serving his country as a Marine to serving the people of Chicago as a police officer and detective. He also discusses why he opened a coffee shop in Back of the Yards and what that experience taught him about investing in neighborhoods, families, and young people.

The conversation turns to education as Juan explains what motivated him to run for the Chicago Board of Education. Manny and Juan discuss school safety, housing stability, parental involvement, educational opportunities, accountability, and the importance of giving families a meaningful voice in decisions affecting their children's schools.

This episode isn't only about a campaign. It's a conversation about service, leadership, fatherhood, community, and continuing to answer the call to serve in new ways.
