James 1:19–27 | Vincent Gulay OCTOBER 25, 2026
How often do we hear what God is asking of us, but respond with, “God, I will… I’m just…”?
James challenges us to move beyond hearing into genuine surrender, aligning our Heart, Hearing and Hands.
- RECEIVE HUMBLY — The Posture of Surrender
- James 1:19–21
God cares about the condition of our hearts and our willingness to receive His Word, even when it challenges our attitudes, desires and behaviours.
“Some of us don’t have a problem hearing the Word. We have a problem being corrected by it.” Reflect: What is God asking me to surrender in my heart?
- RESPOND OBEDIENTLY — The Action of Surrender
- James 1:22–25
James compares hearing without doing to looking in a mirror, seeing what needs to change, and walking away without responding.
“Delayed obedience can be a subtle way of retaining control while appearing to surrender.” Reflect: What has God already asked me to do that I’ve been delaying?
- PURE RELIGION — The Evidence of Surrender
James 1:26–27
A surrendered life produces visible evidence:
- Our Words: How we speak reflects our hearts.
- Our Compassion: Faith moves us towards those who are hurting.
- Our Holiness: We resist allowing the world’s values to shape us.
“The Word that changes your heart should be evidenced in your life.”
Reflect: What evidence of surrender is visible in my life?
MY RESPONSE — A Life Fully Surrendered
Luke 2:52 | RPMS Reflection
- Relational: What relationships need attention?
- Physical: What habits need to change?
- Mental: What attitudes need surrendering?
- Spiritual: Where is God calling me to grow?
What is ONE thing God is asking me to do?
What will I do about it this week?
Don’t just leave knowing what needs to change. Leave having decided what you’re going to do about it.
What can God do with a life fully surrendered?
YES LORD. I YIELD.
