Concept Care Podcast: Smartphone Apps That Help NDIS Participants Master Daily Skills
10m | Sep 14, 2026Welcome to Concept Care podcast.
In this episode, we explore how everyday technology can help NDIS participants build confidence, develop daily living skills and work towards greater independence.
Your smartphone can be much more than a way to stay connected. With the right apps and personalised support, it can become a practical tool for managing routines, remembering appointments, planning journeys, completing household tasks, communicating, accessing information and participating more confidently in the community.
We look at a range of useful apps and digital tools, including the my NDIS app for accessing plan information and budgets, the Opal Travel app for practising public transport journeys around Sydney, Google Maps for navigation, Google Calendar for appointments and routines, Todoist for breaking larger tasks into manageable steps, and Choiceworks for visual schedules and daily activities.
We also discuss communication and accessibility tools such as Proloquo2Go for augmentative and alternative communication, Medisafe for medication reminders, Be My Eyes for visual assistance, and Seeing AI for accessing visual information.
Importantly, we also explain why an app being useful does not automatically mean it is funded through the NDIS. We discuss the importance of considering individual disability-related needs, goals, current NDIS requirements and appropriate professional advice before purchasing technology with NDIS funding.
The episode also explores how support workers can help participants learn to use technology confidently. This may include setting up routines, adding appointments, creating shopping lists, practising public transport routes, following directions, breaking household tasks into smaller steps and learning accessibility features.
The goal is not to become dependent on technology. The goal is to use the right tools to build skills, increase confidence and make more choices independently.
Whether your goal is remembering appointments, learning to travel independently, managing household tasks or communicating more easily, technology can be one useful part of your journey towards greater independence.
At Concept Care Disability Solutions Pty Ltd, we understand that every NDIS participant has different goals and support needs. With person-centred support and the right tools, small steps can lead to meaningful progress in everyday life.
