- Election season special! Midterm cynicism, how to research candidates & voting wisely | Ep. 91
In this week's Brief: it's midterm season, the ads are everywhere, and this episode is a little different. Conner is joined by Dr. Mark Turman, host of Denison Forum's "Faith & Clarity" podcast, and Dr. Katie Frugé, director of the Christian Life Commission for the Baptist General Convention of Texas, for a special crossover episode. They start with the cynicism so many feel about politics — why it's often just misplaced hope, and why the government's frustratingly slow pace might actually be a feature, not a bug.
From there, they walk through how to research candidates and ballot measures before stepping into the voting booth (yes, Conner found a way to work in a movie analogy) and talk through the tension between a candidate's character and their policies.
Plus, they address growing doubts about election integrity, why the sheer scale of our system (and a lesson from Watergate) is actually reason for confidence, and a heated debate over whether stew is acceptable in July.
Their encouragement: Christian hope has a better address than any ballot, so vote with discernment, not cynicism.

S1E91 - 1h 0m - Oct 22, 2026 - The Lindsey Clancy case, America's anxiety epidemic & our addiction to outrage | Ep. 90
In this week’s Brief: I’m joined by Denison Forum contributing writer Erin Kerry. Erin is a functional medicine health coach, podcaster, and author with a passion for helping others find healing in their mental health and offering solutions for Christians in a culture that thrives on chaos, division, and anxiety.
Erin shares her own story of facing multiple diagnoses by age 18 and walks through why anxiety may be less a “thought problem” and more a God-given dashboard alert.
From there, we revisit the tragic Lindsay Clancy case and the mental health failures surrounding it and the postpartum hormone piece too often missed. Erin offers practical guidance for anyone struggling and the loved ones walking alongside them.
Then we talk through the “outrage culture” and what the selective outrage looks like in our 24/7 news cycle, endless social media feeds, and even in a recent SNL monologue.
Plus why Pringles and peppermint bark are so hard to put down, and a quick World Series preview before a possible MLB lockout!

S1E90 - 49m - Oct 15, 2026 - Thwarted terror plots, Christa Pike’s botched execution, Russian plague & October sports updates | Ep. 89
In this week's Brief: Conner is joined by Dr. Ryan Denison to break down three foiled suspected terror attacks in a single week – the thwarted plot against the US military in the UK, the failed FlyDubai hijacking, and an attack planned on the Texas State Capitol.
From there, Ryan walks through Christa Pike's botched execution in Tennessee and why nearly one in ten lethal injections now go wrong. This leads to the bigger question: What does the Bible say about the death penalty?
Plus, a mysterious plague outbreak in Siberia, Alex Ovechkin's final season, the NFL's undefeated and winless teams, and Ryan's MLB playoff picks.
The enemy wants us living in fear — but Jesus came that we may have life abundantly (John 10:10). Are you wearing the whole armor of God?

S1E89 - 56m - Oct 8, 2026 - Is Gen Z okay? A student minister on purpose, sports betting, self-image & deadpanning | Ep. 88
In this week's Brief: What are today's teenagers and young adults really wrestling with? Conner is joined by Cole Travis, a Student Minister with a decade of youth ministry experience, for a candid look at the good, the bad, and the ugly facing Gen Z and Gen Alpha in today’s world. This conversation is for young listeners seeking guidance and older listeners who want to learn how they can best minister to these generations in a challenging, digital-first culture.
They start with the question so many young people are asking: "What's my purpose?" From there, they dive into the concerning trends Cole sees most often — self-image among young women; lust, online sports betting, and NIL pressure among young men — along with how teen brain development shapes enduring suffering and how screens have changed the way they communicate (Cole even decodes Gen Z "deadpanning"). And Cole also shares what gives him real hope for these generations.

S1E88 - 50m - Oct 1, 2026 - Why Trump banned CNN and MS Now, UN leaders can't agree & Ella Langley dethrones Mariah Carey | Ep. 87
In this week's Brief: Conner is joined by Josh Miller, CEO of Denison Ministries to discuss President Trump's ban on CNN, Politico and MS Now from the White House. We break down the lawsuit, the rare show of solidarity from rival networks (even Fox News!), and the comical, silent helipad ribbon-cutting that followed. Then we tackle a bigger question: What do we do when we doubt God?
From there, we dive into the UN General Assembly, where world leaders from Brazil, France and Jordan — plus President Trump — all say they want peace but can't agree on how to get there. It serves as an illustration of pursuing unity in the body of Christ, even across dividing lines.
Plus, the Paramount–Warner Bros. merger clears a major hurdle (with CNN in the mix), Ella Langley's "Choosing Texas" dethrones Mariah Carey for the longest-running No. 1 in Billboard Hot 100 history, and the office fantasy football standings are totally upside down.

S1E87 - 47m - Sep 24, 2026 - Will AI destroy humanity? Plus: Netflix’s “Death of a Pastor’s Wife” & Hollywood’s massive summer | Ep. 86
In this week's Brief: Conner is joined by Alex Kondratev to tackle a question that's suddenly everywhere: Is AI going to destroy humanity? A viral resignation thread from a former Anthropic researcher claiming that AI companies are “gambling with our lives” has Washington and Silicon Valley on edge. Conner and Alex dig into the timing, the money at stake, and why Christians can trust God even when the "smartest people in the room" say they're scared.
From there, Alex breaks down Netflix's "Death of a Pastor's Wife" — the docuseries dominating the platform's top spot — and what its story of spiritual abuse and unchecked authority means for how the church holds leaders accountable.
Plus, AJ Baxley returns to settle the score on “Bust the Block”, Conner and AJ's summer box office prediction game, revisiting record-breaking hits like "The Odyssey" and "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" against Disney flops like "Moana" and "The Mandalorian and Grogu."

S1E92 - 1h 2m - Sep 17, 2026 - GOP’s risky midterm convention, fixing college sports, remembering 9/11 & an Emmys preview | Ep. 85
In this week's Brief: Conner is joined by Parker Jones to unpack the Republican Party's first-ever midterm convention, happening this week in Dallas with Trump and JD Vance headlining. Even GOP insiders are skeptical it'll land, especially scheduled opposite NFL opening week. Conner and Parker dig into what's driving voter frustration on both sides and land on Galatians 5:1: our freedom isn't found in any party, but in Jesus.
From there, Parker breaks down the Protect College Sports Act, the bipartisan bill aiming to rein in NIL chaos, the transfer portal, and the coaching carousel — tying it back to greed and instant gratification through Esau's bowl of soup.
Plus, a tragic Miami plane crash, the anniversaries of Charlie Kirk's death and 9/11, Emmy nominations, and a loaded NFL opening week.

S1E85 - 45m - Sep 10, 2026 - Venezuela oil deal, Pentagon turmoil, Putin's desperation, foldable iPhone rumors & NFL returns! | Ep. 84
In this week's Brief: Conner is joined by Josh Miller, CEO of Denison Ministries, for a whirlwind trip around the world. They start in Venezuela, where Trump's "biggest oil deal in world history" comes with a surprising backstory. And they parse through what the deal could mean for gas prices back home.
From there, they cover a rough week for U.S. military leadership, including Army Secretary Dan Driscoll's resignation, the USS Lincoln's unprecedented nine months at sea, renewed U.S.-Iran strikes, and just how desperate Putin may be, given how badly Russia's war in Ukraine is going. It all leads to a pivotal question: where is our hope really built when nations and leaders keep falling short?
Plus, they speculate on what next week’s major Apple product announcements could entail (a foldable iPhone?). And with the NFL season kicking off next week, Conner and Josh make their early Super Bowl picks!

S1E84 - 50m - Sep 3, 2026 - Flock cameras are everywhere, Meta's $17B settlement, Dolly Parton & college football returns | Ep. 83
In this week's Brief: Conner is joined by Clayton Harris to break down America's growing distrust of big tech starting with Flock cameras, the license-plate surveillance system now active in nearly every state, weighing real safety wins against wrongful stops and misuse, and asking who we can actually trust with our data (hint: not a camera).
From there, they unpack Meta's $17 billion settlement over child safety and social media addiction — a fraction of what states sought — and why personal responsibility beats any lawsuit.

S1E83 - 47m - Aug 27, 2026 - Kathryn Krick’s viral “healing” videos, why Gen Z wants old-school worship & the Lakers' shock sale | Ep. 82
In this week's Brief: Conner is joined by Jonathan Becker, a Denison Forum contributing writer and student minister to dive into his recent article on the viral rise of self-proclaimed apostle Kathryn Krick and the New Apostolic Reformation and why Jonathan says this movement is a real danger to evangelicalism. It's a conversation about discernment, false teaching, and why we bow to Christ alone.
From there, Jonathan breaks down his research on Gen Z and worship to offer answers to the question: why are a growing number of young Christians drawn to old-school, liturgical churches over flashy contemporary services?
Plus, the guys remember actress Hayden Panettiere, break down the stunning $12.5 billion sale of the Los Angeles Lakers to Josh Kushner and Bob Iger, and preview this weekend's IndyCar race around the National Mall in Washington, D.C.

S1E82 - 39m - Aug 20, 2026 - U.S. missile shortage, Trump’s secret Air Force One swap, “Choosin’ Texas” & a new political party? | Ep. 81
In this week's Brief: the U.S. has burned through a staggering share of its missile stockpile in the war with Iran — Patriot interceptors down over 50%, THAAD missiles depleted by 80%. Conner and Micah break down why replenishing these stockpiles takes years, and what it means for U.S. readiness. But they land on the reminder that while we can't control geopolitics, we can cast our anxieties on the God who holds it all.
From there, they dig into Tucker Carlson's rumored third-party ambitions and why there may actually be an appetite among Americans for a new political party with record-high frustration with both parties. Conner and Micah discuss whether this movement could actually reshape American politics, or if it's more style than substance.
Plus, Trump's secret Air Force One switcheroo over a credible assassination threat, two former NBA players filing for the WNBA draft to force a reckoning on eligibility, and Ella Langley's "Choosin’ Texas" closing in on the all-time Billboard record. Micah also says (see you later) as he steps back from his regular seat behind the mic.

S1E81 - 49m - Aug 13, 2026 - Sophie Cunningham, Spain's migrant crisis, record box office & the Dodgers' blockbuster trade | Ep. 80
In this week's Brief: Conner is joined by Denison Forum writer Parker Jones to unpack the WNBA's summer of controversy, as Sophie Cunningham's stand for biological reality in women's sports proves that common sense still wins out.
From there, they break down the chaos on the Spanish-Moroccan border, where 72,000 migrants rushed into the enclave of Ceuta in a single day, driven largely by rumors on social media, and more than 80 people died crossing. Conner and Parker land on a call to pray for the gospel in a region that badly needs it.
Plus, Trump calls off a major strike on Iran, movie theaters post their biggest weekend ever behind "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" and "The Odyssey," and the Dodgers add ace Tarik Skubal amid MLB lockout fears — all pointing back to one truth: God's Word shows us what's best.

S1E80 - 45m - Aug 6, 2026 - Should We Be Worried About Data Centers? & Why Is Everything So Expensive? | Ep. 79
In this week's Brief: Conner's out, so Micah and Josh take the reins for a deep dive on two questions everyone's asking. First: Should we be worried about data centers? They break down what one actually is, why North Texas is suddenly full of them, and the real pros and cons behind the fights breaking out over land, water, and power, landing on whether this technology is being built with integrity.
From there, they tackle why everything feels so expensive, running real numbers on gas, beef, electricity, and coffee since Culture Brief launched, and unpacking the causes: oil instability, a shrinking cattle herd, data centers straining the grid, and tariffs. They flag a striking Gallup stat showing that Americans feel worse about their finances now than in 2008 or during the pandemic.
Plus, a challenge from Scripture: when money's tight for everyone, it's a chance to be generous, not silent.

S1E79 - 50m - Jul 30, 2026 - World Cup reflections, Trump’s election speech, Middle East update & ‘The Odyssey’ | Ep. 78
In this week's Brief: We look back at a World Cup that exceeded every expectation. It brought millions together, introduced Americans to the world's biggest sport, and reminded us that shared joy is still possible in an increasingly divided culture. Why did this tournament resonate so deeply, and what can Christians learn from it? We dive in!
From there, Conner offers a hot (warm?) take on commercials. Then we unpack President Trump's address on election integrity, discuss the latest developments in the Middle East, the arrests of Andrew and Tristan Tate, Ryan Fox's surprise Open Championship victory, Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" dominating the box office, and why Christians should resist cynicism by letting Scripture—not the headlines—shape how we see the world.

S1E78 - 35m - Jul 23, 2026 - Lindsey Graham dies, Charlie Kirk hearing, Trump’s address, RIP Sam Neill & World Cup Final | Ep. 77
In this week's Brief: Conner is joined by Clayton Harris to process the sudden death of Senator Lindsey Graham at age 71. We walk through his legacy as one of the most influential and polarizing figures in modern politics, his role in shaping the Iran war, and the massive hole his absence leaves in the Senate. We reflect on former Senator Ben Sasse's powerful words about facing death with faith and ask: if you knew you were in your last days, what would you do differently?
From there, we break down the Charlie Kirk murder case as the preliminary hearing reveals DNA evidence, surveillance footage, and a roommate's testimony. With a death penalty case and a wave of political conspiracy on the horizon, we explore how believers can resist the pull of distrust and lean into the trust that Scripture calls us to.
Plus, Trump addresses the nation on Iran and election fraud, the US fires missiles at Iran again, Jurassic Park legend Sam Neill passes away, the World Cup Final is set, and the British Open tees off this weekend. And don’t miss Clayton's hot take on why the US will never dominate global soccer.

S1E77 - 46m - Jul 16, 2026 - SCOTUS recap, America's next 250, Taylor Swift wedding, World Cup heartbreak & Culture Brief news | Ep. 76
In this week's Brief: The Supreme Court dropped some of its biggest rulings of the year and we break down all four—campaign finance limits erased, mail-in ballots upheld, transgender athlete bans sustained, and birthright citizenship preserved. We explore what each means, where the justices split, and why our ultimate judge isn't in Washington.
Then Micah takes us through "The Next 250"—what the next 250 years of America could look like and the four forces that will shape it: technology, energy, institutions, and cultural character. He makes the case that the future of our nation depends less on DC and more on what happens in our homes, our churches, and our relationship with God.
Plus, we have a big announcement about the future of Culture Brief and exciting changes at Denison Forum. Trump threatens to end the Iran ceasefire, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce tie the knot, LeBron is a free agent, the US gets humbled at the World Cup, and the quarterfinals are set.

S1E76 - 46m - Jul 9, 2026 - Reflecting pool mess, Air Force One drama, Clavicular, 'Maxxing' trends, World Cup & new studio! | Ep. 75
In this week's Brief: Welcome to our brand new studio! Conner is joined by Josh Miller, CEO of Denison Ministries, to tackle the reflecting pool drama in DC, the controversial new Air Force One, and how both expensive "birthday gifts" for America's 250th point us back to the one gift that truly came with no strings attached: the gospel.
Then we dive into the bizarre trend of "maxxing"—the obsession with optimizing every aspect of life to the extreme. We focus on “looksmaxxing” and Clavicular, a social media star serving as the movement’s primary ambassador. Josh breaks down what it all reveals about control, self-worth, and why identity rooted in anything other than Christ will never be enough.
Plus, UK PM Keir Starmer resigns, Toy Story 5 is a hit, Giannis traded to the Heat, Wyndham Clark wins the US Open amid booing, World Cup updates, and a fun Declaration of Independence signer or company name game for America 250.

S1E75 - 48m - Jun 25, 2026 - World Cup tourists love America, Iran deal explained, Knicks win & SpaceX soars | Ep. 74
In this week's Brief: Conner is joined by Dr. Ryan Denison to break down the Iran memorandum of understanding—what we know, what we don't, and whether this war actually accomplished what it set out to do. With nuclear questions unresolved and trust in short supply, Ryan reminds us that the credibility of the gospel depends on the credibility of Christians.
From there, we celebrate World Cup tourists falling in love with America. From Buc-ee's to biscuits and gravy to yellow school buses, foreign fans are reminding us of everything we take for granted—and it's a breath of fresh air in a country that's been told it's broken. We explore what this means for American pride and the biblical call to welcome one another as Christ has welcomed us.
Plus, three tragic aircraft crashes including the loss of pop artist Oliver Tree, SpaceX soars past $2.6 trillion, the Hurricanes win the Stanley Cup, the Knicks end a 53-year championship drought, the US dominates Paraguay 4-1, and the US Open tees off in 40 mph winds.

S1E74 - 42m - Jun 18, 2026 - World Cup preview, SpaceX IPO, helicopter shot down, Knicks-Spurs & UFC at the White House | Ep. 73
In this week's Brief: The World Cup kicks off on American soil and we break down why this isn't just a soccer tournament—it's the most-watched event in human history. We explore what 48 nations gathering together means culturally, highlight the players boldly sharing their faith on the world's biggest stage, and connect it all to Revelation 7:9 and the ultimate gathering of nations before the throne of God.
From there, we dive into “Hot IPO Summer” as SpaceX prepares to become the most valuable IPO in history, potentially making Elon Musk the world's first trillionaire. With OpenAI and Anthropic also filing to go public, we talk about what this means for AI, the economy, and how to handle financial anxiety through the lens of Philippians 4:6.
Plus, a U.S. helicopter is shot down over the Strait of Hormuz and rescued by a drone boat for the first time ever, Spencer Pratt falls short in the LA mayor race, Stanley Cup and NBA Finals updates, and UFC is coming to the White House lawn.

44m - Jun 11, 2026 - America's vice problem, Iran update, Gen Z box office boom, 60 Minutes turmoil & NBA Finals | Ep. 72
In this week's Brief: The Iran deal negotiations feel like Groundhog Day—another week, another "we're almost there." We break down Trump's heated call with Netanyahu, the stalled peace talks, and a call to prayer for an end to the conflict.
Then we look the vices that are quietly dominating American culture—sports gambling, marijuana, and online prostitution. We explore how instant gratification has turned every phone into a pocket Las Vegas—and what biblical stewardship looks like in response.
Plus, Scott Pelley fired from 60 Minutes, the Spencer Pratt mayoral race update, Gen Z directors are blowing up the box office while Star Wars stumbles, Myles Garrett sent to the Rams in a blockbuster NFL trade, and the Stanley Cup and NBA Finals are here!
Through it all, we're reminded that God is our refuge and fortress—and that the vices of this world were never meant to satisfy what only He can fill.
