June 19: Volume 2, Issue 40
1m | Jun 18, 2026In this brief episode, we wrap up the year with the final Feather Report (Volume 2, Issue 40) as Westlawn celebrates a wonderful send-off for students on June 17. The administration wishes everyone a restful summer and shares that the school building will have limited hours (generally 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.), with most staff taking a collective pause away from the building from June 24 through July 14.
We highlight essential summer resources for families, including the fun, outdoor FCPS Puzzle Hunt and the availability of free breakfast and lunch for both students and adults at nearby Braddock and Glen Forest Elementary Schools. Looking ahead to the 2026-2027 school year, we discuss the reduction of Early Release Wednesdays from eight down to four days, and remind parents to look out for their ParentVUE activation emails coming on July 29. The calendar is already gearing up for next year with "Playground and Popsicles" for rising kindergarteners on July 29 and the "Welcome to Westlawn" supply drop-off event on August 21.
Finally, we encourage parents who wish to volunteer next year to start their background checks over the summer, and we share an Amazon wish list to help supply the Westlawn Mentor Program after a recent loss of funding.
