    Tamice Spencer-Helms (she/they) is a published author, speaker, and theologian based in Richmond, Virginia. 

    At 20 years old Tamice was drawn to full time ministry. After 15 years, Tamice went on to found Sub: Culture Incorporated, a nonprofit that provides holistic support and crisis relief for Black College Students. 

    In addition to their Bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies and Copywriting (Virginia Commonwealth University), Tamice has a Masters of Arts in Contextual Leadership and a Masters of Arts in Theology. 

    Over the years, Tamice has been a change-maker and pioneer for young people in her community. Throughout their life, Tamice has connected, supported, and ministered to countless young adults. Her friendly and down-to-earth approach to public speaking and teaching, as well as their dedication to theological study, has helped empower and inspire people in her community and beyond. 

    Tamice lives in Richmond with their spouse Ellison, her daughter Harlym and their puppy Beacon Rey. In her spare time, she loves to dissect and listen to Hip-Hop, watch documentaries, whiskey tasting, and relax with a good book and a fresh cup of coffee. 

    Her debut book Faith Unleavened: The Wilderness Between Trayvon Martin and George Floyd was released on February 21st. 2023!

    Karl Forehand has 20 years experience as a pastor and counselor. Through the years he has counseled people in marriage, career, spirituality and general life struggles.   Karl has training in Spiritual Direction and Spiritual Leadership Coaching. He is the author of the award-winning book Apparent Faith: What Fatherhood Taught Me About the Father’s Heart (2019) and The Tea Shop (2020), Being, The Hotel and his latest book, Out Into the Desert, with his wife, Laura

    Laura Forehand is a second grade teacher. She also teaches a classroom management technique called “Whole Brain Teaching.” She loves her children and is passionate about her grandchildren. She has recently found her voice and is working through reconstruction. Laura is a gifted writer, speaker and teacher.

    Karl and Laura went through a deconstruction of their beliefs around 2017 and stepped down from their third church. They still attended church for a couple of years, but recently (late 2019) stopped attending an organizational church. They are currently promoting their book together called “Our into the Desert” and working together on the Desert Sanctuary podcast and related blogs / website.

    Guest Bio:

    Paul Baxley is the CBF Executive Director. Baxley was ordained to gospel ministry in 1993 at his home church of First Baptist Church on Fifth in Winston-Salem, N.C. Baxley and his wife, Jennifer, a licensed physical therapist, have four children: Olivia (age 17), Maria (age 11) and twins Caroline and Matthew (ages 8). Baxley has also held a variety of leadership roles with CBF partner organizations including the Board of Visitors of Mercer University’s McAfee School of Theology (member, 2012-2018 and chair, 2015-2016); Board of Directors of the Baptist House of Studies of Duke Divinity School (member, 2006-2012; chair, 2009-2010); and the Board of Directors of the Center for Congregational Health (member, 2004-2010; chair, 2009). In 2012, Baxley gave the Lawrence Hoover Lectures at Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond and delivered a sermon titled “Preaching as Participation” at the Mercer Preaching Consultation.

    Mark Snipes is the Coordinator for CBF of Virginia. Mark was born and raised in the small town of Rockmart, Georgia in the North Georgia mountains. A graduate of the McAfee School of Theology in Atlanta, Georgia, Mark worked in local church ministry for seven years before becoming Missions Coordinator for Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Virginia in October 2013. In 2017, Mark’s position was broadened and his title was changed to Associate Coordinator. In this role, Mark concentrates on global and local missions; advocacy; events; connecting with churches, ministers, and the Young Baptist Ecosystem.

    Rabbi Daniel Bogard is proud to be a native St. Louisian. He grew up at Central Reform Congregation, and spent his summers as a song-leader at camps Ramot and Sabra. After graduating from Macalester College in St. Paul, MN, he spent a year teaching at Lift for Life Academy before heading off to Rabbinical School at Hebrew Union College. It was there that he met Rabbi Karen Kriger Bogard, his co-rabbi and life partner.

    Today, Daniel is excited and honored to be a part of the rabbinic team at Central Reform Congregation. He is a Senior Rabbinic Fellow of the Shalom Hartman Institute and is adjunct faculty at Eden Theological Seminary.
