Looking law in the eye | Droit dans les yeux

In this episode, we are joined by Inès Aribi, co-founder of Droit dans les Yeux, a platform democratising access to the law in France. Algerian-born and raised in France, Inès is a qualified lawyer and an activist for social and racial justice in France and beyond.

Through her legal knowledge, she teaches the law to marginalised communities in French society, including young people and residents of racialised suburbs (banlieues), as well as Arab and African communities. Together with her team, she uses social media, content creation, and humour to bring law down from its ivory tower and closer to the people it is meant to serve. This work has earned the association a democracy prize for addressing this critical gap.

Beyond her work with Droit dans les Yeux, Inès is also politically active and has previously run for political office in her local area. In this conversation, we explore what it means to take action, the intersection of social and economic class with legal education, and what it truly means to look law in the eye in the service of social justice.
