- Ep. #407: May 24-30, 1992
Kris and David are guestless as we discuss the week that was May 24-30, 1992. Topics of discussion include:
- WWF moving SummerSlam from the Capital Centre in Landover, Maryland to Wembley Stadium in London, England and how that will affect the show.
- Titan Sports also moving the WBF PPV from the Convention Center in Long Beach, California to the Terrace Theater down the street, which meant a difference of 9,600 available seats and the obvious reasons that happened.
- Mainstream magazines doing stories on steroids in Titan Sports and how the pro wrestling magazines were arguably doing a better job than them at covering the steroid issue.
- Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth’s impending divorce becomes public knowledge and changes the direction of Savage’s ongoing feud with Ric Flair
- WWF TV clips including Nailz making his debut, Bret Hart throwing barbs at Shawn Michaels, and Papa Shango doing his black magic.
- One of the greatest matches in wrestling history taking place in All Japan in the form of Kenta Kobashi and Tsuyoshi Kikuchi’s All-Asian Tag Team Title win over the Can-Am Express in Kikuchi’s hometown of Miyagi, plus Atsushi Onita takes on Leon Spinks in FMW, the newly-formed AAA picking up stream in Mexico, Super Porky suffering a heart attack, Negro Casas jumping from the UWA to CMLL, and much more in our international section.
- Tatsumi Fujinami appearing at a very early ECW show, the USWA vs. “Global" feud getting hot and heavy in Memphis, Don Owen promoting his final card in Portland, and so much more in the indie section.
- The impending arrival of Cowboy Bill Watts with his “Ten Commandments,” Larry Zbyszko turning babyface and splitting off from the Dangerous Alliance, and tons more in WCW.
This is an extremely fun show, so listen now!!!!

Kris and David are guestless as we discuss the week-plus that was May 16-23, 2000 in a show requested by one of our Patrons, Michael Otts. You can do that yourself dropping a $25 pledge on our Patreon.
Topics of discussion this week include:
- The status of Ric Flair after his in-ring collapse at a Thunder taping, including why WCW kept it on the TV show en route to making an angle out of it.
- Discussion of Thunder and Nitro in general, which is deep in the Bischoff/Russo run and is some of the stupidest wrestling television ever produced. It was entertaining in its own way, but it still made your head hurt. Just mind-numbingly stupid.
- News on the level of morale in the WCW locker room, Bret Hart wanting to come back, and so much “WCW, EVERYBODY!!!!” stuff that it's ridiculous.
- News on Jumbo Tsuruta's funeral and how that has affected the AJPW/eventual Pro Wrestling NOAH split.
- Shinya Hashimoto's "resignation" from New Japan.
- Nise Onita's retirement show at Korakuen Hall, where he got to share the ring with Actual Onita, both as an opponent and tag team partner.
- Martha Hart gives quite the statement in the Calgary Sun on the first anniversary of Owen Hart's death.
- The WWC takes legal action against Savio Vega and IWA Puerto Rico over their attempts to revive the TNT gimmick.
- The ongoing Raven contract release drama in ECW.
- SmackDown, Raw, and the Judgment Day PPV in the WWF, including the return of The Undertaker as well as Triple H and The Rock going 60 minutes in an Iron Man Match, plus all of the other drama going on in and out of the ring in the WWF at that time.
This show is stacked and packed, and just waiting on you to listen to it!!!!!

- The WWF's plans for their version of WCW, with Jim Ross meeting with prospective talent such as Rob Van Dam, as well as WCW contracted talent. We also have possible announcers discussed, including the potential return of Jerry Lawler to the WWFE fold.
- A busy week in the WWF proper, as we have not only the regular TV shows, but also the Backlash PPV featuring Steve Austin and Triple H becoming the new tag champs, which meant they owned all the major titles at the time. We also have the DUCHESS OF QUEENSBURY, Steve Blackman getting in on “Chains of Love,” Shane McMahon taking yet another insane bump, Lita and Chyna starting up their Women’s Title “feud” of sorts, Stone Cold and Hunter joining Howard Stern for the Crazy Cabbie vs. Angry Black boxing exhibition, and tons more.
- The international scene, where we talk about Antonio Inoki's meeting with Mike Tyson, Rey Misterio Jr. being banned by Time Warner from wrestling in Tijuana, and all of the other news and results from outside the mainland United States.
- The U.S. indie scene, featuring a Massachusetts state senator being the figurehead commissioner in NECW, Bret Hart making a special appearance in New York, John Boy & Billy receiving the ECW TV Title belt from Rob Van Dam, Women of Wrestling having issues outlined in their latest SEC filings (because yes, they were a publicly traded company), Vince Russo laying down the law on his message board, Hulk Hogan trying to start a promotion, and a Wake Forest University study looking into how violent wrestling fans are on dates compared to the general population.
This was quite the show, and it also includes a free previous of our new Patreon deep dive special (about the real life Ric Flair-Eric Bischoff feud from 1998) at the end, so everyone check it out!!!

Kris and David are guestless as we discuss the week that was April 12-18, 1999.
- We start off by talking about Davey Boy Smith, as this was when he was stuck in a Calgary hospital in severe pain from a spinal infection and got fired by WCW. We talk about all the issues that he had leading up to this and what his future held.
- From there, we go to WCW proper for a wild week with a very newsworthy Nitro full of big matches and angles then a Thunder that was appropriately Thunder-esque. We also have all the wild drama that is par for the course in WCW in this era, featuring Arn Anderson having a pretty rough week, Eric Bischoff speaking on WCW Live, bad morale in the company and so much more.
- International is next, as Vader wins the Champion Carnival tournament in AJPW, Atsushi Onita goes back to school, Yuki Kondo becomes the King of Pancrase, and tons more.
- Then we go back to the United Status, where Paul Heyman speaks to the Torch about ECW's mounting financial issues while they are actually doing some decent house show business and producing some solid TV, plus news on TNN picking up a wrestling show, Randy Hales baring his soul on Memphis TV, and lots more.
- We then close with the WWF, as they make some roster cuts (sort of), and we go over why that is happening despite the record business they were doing at the time, plus a crazy episode of Monday Night Raw, Steve Austin being hit by a car (in real life), interesting quotes from members of company management in Raw Magazine, and a show-closing news item that is almost surely the most ominous closer in BTS history.
This is a slam-packed show here, folks, so you definitely don't want to miss this!!!

Kris and David are joined by one of our Patrons, Tyler Gignac (@Tyler_Gignac) to discuss the week-plus that was April 3-10, 1993, a show that he requested with a $100 pledge on our Patreon page. And it’s our 400th show, to boot!
- We start the show with the WWF and WrestleMania IX in Las Vegas, where we talk about the differences in how the show was marketed compared to how it has been in recent years. We then go over the show itself, featuring the shocking finish of Hulk Hogan, dubious black eye and all, leaving with the WWF Championship, as well as the debut of Jim Ross as the lead announcer, plus all of the matches in depth at the failed “world’s largest toga party.”. We then talk about the post-Mania plans and all sorts of other news and views from the week.
- We then go international, where the Champion Carnival is firing up in AJPW, NJPW and WAR run some shows together, the UWFi has a big show, Universal Lucha Libre starts fading away in the early days of Michinoku Pro, AJW runs Dream Slam II, AAA is doing big things, there’s drama backstage in CMLL, and tons more.
- Then we come back to the U.S. for the Indie scene featuring MACCABIAHMANIA, the very first episode of ECW TV, tension in the Heavenly Bodies camp in SMW, Jerry Lawler reforming Lawler’s Army in the USWA, there’s a big tw0-art story on the Von Erichs in the New York Daily News, and a whole lot more.
- WCW closes out the show, as we have news on Tully Blanchard seemingly coming on, Cactus Jack and Vader taking their feud to another level, Jesse Ventura meeting the Cole Twins, Ric Flair and Arn Anderson teasing future things, and so much more.
Lots of good stuff on this one, so LISTEN NOW!!!!

- Then we go international, where we talk about Stan Hansen regaining popularity in AJPW after the “NOBODY POTATOES ME!” angle, the saga of Tom Magee, Akira Maeda reforming the Universal Wrestling Federation, andhot angles in Stampede Wrestling, among other things.
- Next, we go to the territories where we talk about Buck Robley taking charge in Southern Championship Wrestling, Ron Wright being awesome in USA Wrestling, Eddie Marlin and Tommy Gilbert doing a hot angle on Memphis TV, various promotions in a state of flux, and much more.

Kris and David are guestless as we discuss the week that was March 22-28, 1995.
- We start off with the WWF, as WrestleMania XI is around the corner, so we talk about the go-home Raw, which was an interesting show as it featured just one match and was largely a clip show hyping up Mania. We talk about the weird booking at this time, as well, as there were more intriguing matches and angles on TV than the ones featuring the same wrestlers at Mania.
- Then we go international, where Dave Meltzer is in Japan again, but the focus is on the big All Japan Women show at Yokohama Arena, where Manami Toyota won the WWWA Title from Aja Kong in the main event. Dave also attended other shows, as well and we have the reviews of those, plus all the other news and views from Japan, Mexico, and more.
- Next we go back to the United States, where we talk about some funky indie shows in the Northeast, John Arezzi trying to get AAA back on American PPV without WCW’s help, Al Snow and Unabomb cosplaying as the Rock ’n’ Roll Express on SMW TV, Marcus Dupree making an impact on Memphis TV, and lots more.
- Then we close with WCW, where Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair are having major issues both on and off TV as the power structure of the company is changing by the minute, and on TV, we have Lord Steven Regal trying to turn Bobby Eaton into a Blue Blood, plus lots more.
This is an extremely fun show, so check it out!!!!

Kris and David are guestless as we discuss the week that was March 15-21, 1991.
- This is a very different show from our usual, as the majority focuses on Dave Meltzer's big trip to Japan, where he attended the New Japan/WCW "Starrcade ’91 at the Tokyo Dome” show (“Japan Supershow” in the U.S.) featuring Tatsumi Fujinami defeating Ric Flair to become the new NWA World Heavyweight Champion…..sort of. We have all the news and views from that show, including the "controversy" as to just who was the real champion.
- We also discuss Dave's other tour stops including Universal Lucha Libre, All Japan Women, and the original JWP, with Dave having plenty of interesting thoughts about those shows.
- On the U.S. indie scene, we talk about Eddie Mansfield getting back into wrestling, the USWA leaving the Mid-South Coliseum, a very interesting look at the production of Texas Champion Wrestling with Gary Hart and Mickey Grant, Billy Jack Haynes going wild in Portland, and more.
- WCW and the WWF then share a section for the first time to close the show, as we talk about Sid Vicious’s contract status, the Iron Sheik returning to the WWF, Konnan coming into the WWF, Brutus Beefcake as THE MARINER, and so much more.
A very different but extremely fun episode of BTS, so listen now!!!!!

Note: This episode was recorded before the car accident that Dom was in with Joshua Bishop, Derek Dillinger, and Marino Tenaglia over the weekend. Thankfully, it looks like all four of them are going to be fine.
Kris and David are joined by "The Bone Collector" Dominic Garrini (@dgarrinibc) to discuss the week that was March 8-14, 2000.
- We start off with ECW and their Living Dangerously PPV, featuring the original insane New Jack/Vic Grimes scaffold spot, which was scary as hell, as well as Steve Corino going scorched earth on The Sandman's wife, Scotty Anton making his "debut,” the overall crazy booking and terrible production values of the show, Paul Heyman ranting to the Torch, and lots more in a very entertaining section.
- Next, we move on to the World Wrestling Federation, where Buh Buh Ray Dudley nearly kills Mae Young on an episode of Raw that also saw the return of Vince McMahon after being off TV since Stephanie’s heel turn in December, as well asthe Mean Street Posse being awesome while pursuing the Hardcore Title. We also talk some Smackdown, TSN's editing of Raw, L. Brent Bozell wackiness, the Lionel Tate murder case, and even some reviews of Beyond the Mat.
- Then we go to the UFC for one of their most controversial moments ever, as they announce the main event of their UFC 24 PPV, Kevin Randleman vs. Pedro Rizzo, had to be cancelled due to a freak accident, but didn't announce it until the time for the main event to begin despite knowing for most of the broadcast. Kris has some stories about watching that in real time, particularly with regards to his and his friends’ anger at how this went down. We also talk about the rest of the show as well some other MMA happenings.
- International is next, as All Japan gets bad news about their TV time slot, there’s a wacky shoot angle with the Great Muta in New Japan, the Rikidozan Memorial Show takes place featuring Ron Reis as B.B. JONES!!!!!!!!!!!!, Perro Aguayo returns to Arena Mexico after eight years away, Chicky Starr jumps from the WWC to IWAPR, and tons more.
- We then go back to the U.S.A. for the indie scene, featuring early JAPW and CZW results, Screech showing up on Memphis Championship Wrestling to declare his love for The Kat/Stacy Carter, Dave Meltzer attends an All Pro Wrestling show, and more.
- WCW closes out the show, as we talk about their big U.K. tour, where morale was in the toilet despite the trip doing very well financially. We also talk about a couple of crazy-assed episodes of Thunder and Nitro featuring Team Package trying to recruit Arn Anderson and so much more insanity that makes it a must listen section.
Helluva show here, folks, and a long one, too, so buckle up!!!!

Kris and David are guestless as we discuss the week that was February 8-14, 1994.
- We start with the WWF, where we talk about Vince McMahon's legal issues starting to get media play again in the only major story in a quiet week as Raw was off due to the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.
- Next, we go international, talking about Masashi Aoyagi starting up his own promotion, Royce Gracie being in demand, Akira Maeda wanting to face his old friends again, AAA doing big business in Mexico while helping UWA do better, too, among many other things.
- Then we go back to the U.S. indie scene, where we talk about some amazing Terry Funk promos in ECW and SMW, Shane Douglas becoming the Franchise in ECW, Sunday Bloody Sunday in SMW, no live USWA in Memphis thanks to bad weather, and so much more.
- WCW closes the show, as we try to figure out what's really going on with Dusty Rhodes, Ric Flair, and the head booker position, we go over the news from the latest marathon Worldwide tapings at Disney, and bask in the awkwardness of Ted Turner and Jane Fonda hanging out in the crowd at Center Stage, plus so much more.
