This week on “The Argument,” what should Democrats do after the release of Robert Mueller’s (redacted) report? David Leonhardt thinks the report reveals a man unfit to serve as president, even if impeaching him may not be politically wise right now. Michelle Cottle of The Times’s editorial board, who is filling in for Michelle Goldberg this week, argues that continued investigations into the administration’s conduct should precede any push for impeachment. And Ross Douthat likens the Mueller report’s portrait of President Trump as an unscrupulous leader to previous accounts of the Trump White House. 

Let’s start at the end of this story. This weekend, I read Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report twice, and realized that enough was enough—I needed to do something. I’ve worked on every Republican presidential transition team for the past 10 years and recently served as counsel to the Republican-led House Financial Services Committee. My permanent job is as a law professor at the George Mason University Antonin Scalia Law School, which is not political, but where my colleagues have held many prime spots in Republican administrations.
