I voted for Barack Obama in 2008—and I regret that vote. This isn’t an argument that everyone who voted for him was wrong. It’s an honest examination of why I made my decision, what changed afterward, and how I learned to put policy before personality. In this episode, I trace my political evolution from a conservative upbringing to identifying as a libertarian. I discuss how September 11 shaped my views on national security; why healthcare, taxation, personal liberty, faith, marijuana policy, and limited government changed how I evaluate candidates; and what I would tell my 18-year-old self today. Most importantly, this episode asks what responsible voting actually requires. Before casting a ballot, can you explain what the candidate proposed, what evidence you verified, which values guided you, what trade-offs you accepted, who will experience the consequences, and what evidence could change your mind?Voting is a right and a privilege—but it is also a responsibility. This is my vote, my regret, and the lesson it taught me.This episode contains strong language and personal political opinions.

RJ and Andy dive into everything Star Wars — from the original trilogy and The Empire Strikes Back to Rogue One, Solo, Andor, The Mandalorian, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ahsoka and Disney’s sequel trilogy. They break down their favorite and least favorite Star Wars movies, the greatest lightsaber battles, why Darth Vader remains one of cinema’s best villains, what Disney and Lucasfilm have gotten right and wrong, and which characters and stories deserve another shot. It’s a nostalgic, funny, unfiltered conversation between two longtime fans about the moments that made Star Wars unforgettable — and the decisions that left them wondering what happened to the galaxy far, far away.Plus: Darth Vader’s suit, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, the sequel trilogy, Star Wars spin-off ideas, and one very questionable theory about whether Harry Potter is basically Star Wars. All About the Biscuits Storytelling. Flock cameras and automated license plate readers are appearing in communities across America, offering law enforcement a powerful tool for public safety. But when does a tool designed to catch criminals cross the line into surveillance? In this episode of All About the Biscuits, RJ starts with a simple moment while dropping donated food at a community blessing fridge and follows the question down a much bigger rabbit hole: Flock cameras, privacy, surveillance, smartphones, personal data, the First Amendment, the Fourth Amendment, and individual freedom. We already carry phones that track our locations. Apps collect our data. Businesses record us. People film each other in public every day. So why does government-accessible technology capable of tracking vehicles over time feel different?RJ explores both sides—the legitimate public-safety benefits of technology and the concerns surrounding data access, retention, information sharing, government oversight, and personal privacy.Because maybe the question isn't whether we're being watched.Maybe the real question is: Who is watching the watchers? This isn't about telling you what to think. It's about figuring out where your line is.How much privacy are you willing to trade for safety—and who should get to decide when we've crossed that line? All About the BiscuitsStorytelling. Why does everything feel so damn expensive — and how much of it is actually beyond our control? It starts with a surprisingly reasonable dinner bill and one simple question: When did reasonable become surprising? In this episode of All About the Biscuits, RJ takes a raw, honest look at affordability in America — from grocery and restaurant prices to rent, housing, wages, work ethic, and the expectations we’ve built around what we think we should be able to afford.Yes, groceries cost more. Housing is expensive. People are genuinely struggling. Corporations and government deserve scrutiny. But that can all be true while we still ask another uncomfortable question: What responsibility belongs to us?RJ breaks down what the facts say about food prices and where our grocery dollars actually go, shares how his own family changed what they buy when prices went up, and looks at housing through the lens of Charleston’s growth, roommates, living at home, homeownership, income, and long-term expectations. This isn’t about telling struggling people to “just work harder,” and it isn’t about pretending corporations are innocent. It’s about refusing to accept easy answers from either side.Sometimes the system needs to change. Sometimes our expectations need to change. Sometimes people need a hand up. And sometimes we need to look in the mirror. So who owns America’s affordability problem — corporations, government, the economy… or us?🎙️ All About the Biscuits Storytelling. Perspective. A farm disappears. A massive data center takes its place. Nobody remembers being asked. That simple moment led me down a much bigger conversation about public trust, local government, AI, responsible growth, and who really gets to make the decisions that shape our communities. In this episode of All About the Biscuits, I share a personal story from Northern Virginia, discuss what's happening in communities like Colleton County and Charleston, explore how AI could help leaders make smarter decisions, and ask a question I think all of us should be asking:Who speaks for our communities when we're not in the room? This isn't about telling you what to think. It's about asking better questions, sharing honest perspectives, and having conversations that matter—even when we don't all agree.
In this episode:

Why one old barn changed the way I think about growth

Data centers and the rise of AI infrastructure

Local government, zoning, and community representation

Responsible development versus unchecked expansion

Public trust and accountability

The importance of listening before making decisions

Why being a good neighbor still matters

If this episode made you think, I'd love for you to follow the show, leave a rating, and share it with someone who enjoys thoughtful conversations.Real Stories. Were we really the best generation... or were we simply the last generation raised before the internet changed everything? In this episode of All About the Biscuits, RJ takes you on a nostalgic—and surprisingly emotional—journey through what it was like growing up as Generation X.This isn't just another conversation about rotary phones, mixtapes, Blockbuster, and riding bikes until the streetlights came on. It's about the lessons that shaped an entire generation.Through personal stories—including rescuing his little sister from an alligator-filled pond, working his first real job at 13½, learning responsibility without constant supervision, surviving bullying, fixing broken bikes instead of replacing them, and adapting through decades of technological change—RJ explores why Generation X developed resilience, independence, skepticism, gratitude, and an unmatched work ethic.More importantly, this episode is a heartfelt thank you to the generations who came before us.They lived through wars, hardship, sacrifice, and economic struggles that gave Generation X the freedom to experience one of the greatest childhoods imaginable. They built the foundation. We simply had the privilege of standing on it.Whether you're a proud Gen Xer, a Baby Boomer, a Millennial, Gen Z, or somewhere in between, this episode isn't about declaring one generation better than another. It's about asking an important question:What values are worth passing on before they're forgotten?
In this episode:
• Growing up before smartphones and social media • Why Generation X became the "latchkey generation" • The forgotten lessons of responsibility and accountability • Mixtapes, rotary phones, Blockbuster, MapQuest, MTV, and first cars • Work ethic, resilience, and solving problems without Google • Why skepticism is different from cynicism • The importance of freedom, community, gratitude, and self-reliance • The life lessons every generation can learn from one anotherIf this episode brings back memories, makes you laugh, or reminds you of someone who helped shape your life, share it with them.Because maybe the greatest thing about Generation X wasn't that we were different...It's that we were prepared.

RJ shares how losing his brother and receiving a life-changing call from a veteran in crisis helped reveal both his faith and his purpose to serve. They also discuss fatherhood, doubt, prayer, church, sharing your testimony, guarding the people and influences around you, and the question every listener must eventually answer:What is it going to take for you to get there?⚠️ This episode includes conversations about suicide, addiction, grief, and loss. All About the Biscuits | Storytelling. Perspective. Conviction. What does it mean to love your country without making a spectacle of it?In this episode of All About the Biscuits, RJ explores the idea of The Silent Patriot—the everyday American who genuinely loves their country, appreciates its freedoms, and values their community, yet often stays quiet in a world that seems determined to divide everything into teams. From a simple story about untwisting the American flag outside his home to reflections on America's 250th birthday, RJ examines gratitude, patriotism, independent thinking, and why so many people today seem afraid to say what they actually believe. This isn't a political episode. It's a conversation about perspective. Why do we often appreciate things only after they're gone? Have we become so focused on what's wrong that we've forgotten what's right? This past month, I got fooled.Three headlines crossed my feed. Three stories that seemed obvious. Three situations where I was ready to pick a side before I knew what actually happened.Rookie mistake. So I slowed down, dug into the details, and found something that seems to be happening more and more these days: the headline isn't always the story. In this episode, we look at:

A Minnesota town removing license plate reader cameras

A Texas principal caught in a controversy involving Qurans and Bibles

An Arizona school dealing with the fallout from an ICE arrest involving a student's family

But this episode isn't really about Minnesota, Texas, or Arizona. It's about what happens when national political fights land in local communities. It's about the difference between facts, opinions, and outrage. It's about why social media rewards reactions instead of understanding. And it's about something I've learned standing in front of the Blessing Fridge every Thursday morning: while outrage travels fast, real help usually stays home.No politics. No team jerseys.Just common sense, curiosity, and a reminder that there are real people behind every headline. If you've ever read a headline, gotten fired up, and later discovered there was a lot more to the story, this one's for you.All About the Biscuits is a weekly podcast hosted by RJ featuring current events, life observations, community stories, cultural commentary, movies, humor, common sense, and whatever else is worth saying out loud.🎙️ Follow the show and share this episode with someone who always reads past the headline.#AllAboutTheBiscuits #Podcast #CurrentEvents #Community #CommonSense #MediaLiteracy #NewsCommentary #Culture #Storytelling

Did we misunderstand Rocky all these years? Most people remember Rocky for the boxing, the training montage, the steps, the music, and the final fight. But the original 1976 film is about something much deeper. In this episode of All About the Biscuits, RJ takes a closer look at Rocky as more than an underdog sports movie. Beneath the boxing is a lonely love story about self-worth, being overlooked, and one man trying to prove he matters. We also talk about Sylvester Stallone’s real-life fight to get Rocky made — a broke, struggling actor who refused to sell the script unless he could play the role himself. In many ways, Stallone’s fight to stay in his own story mirrors Rocky Balboa’s fight to belong in his. This is a movie analysis of loneliness, love, Adrian, Paulie, Mickey, Apollo Creed, and why Rocky's heart was never really in the boxing ring.So what do you think? What happened to answering the question? It seems like everywhere we look, people have already picked a side before the facts are known, the evidence is presented, or the conversation even begins. Instead of curiosity, we've embraced certainty. Instead of discussion, we've chosen teams. In this episode of All About the Biscuits, RJ explores why critical thinking feels like a lost art and why so many conversations today end before they ever really begin. From school cell phone bans and media narratives to high-profile criminal cases and stories that often get overlooked, this episode isn't about telling you what to think. It's about asking whether we've become more interested in defending our position than understanding the truth.Because sometimes the most important question isn't whether you're right or wrong. It's whether you ever answered the question in the first place.
In This Episode:
• Why people seem to choose sides before hearing all the facts• The difference between facts, opinions, and conclusions• School cell phone bans and common-sense decision making• Public reaction to high-profile criminal cases• Media narratives and confirmation bias• The dangers of tribal thinking and outrage culture• A positive story of law enforcement success and the fight against drug traffickingWhether you agree, disagree, or fall somewhere in the middle, the goal isn't to win an argument. The goal is to think.🎙️ All About the Biscuits with RJReal Stories.
