Characters of Color & the Comic Book Industry: Are Comics Doing Enough? | D23 & The X-Men! All About Comics: Episode 6

On the latest episode of All About Comics, Corban is joined by good friends and fellow comic aficionados Adonnis and Josh to talk about some of the biggest comic book and superhero news making the rounds.

First up: D23! The guys dig into the latest announcements, including the new X-Men cast, some big trailers, and whether all of this really qualifies as the “latest and greatest” from Disney.

From there, things take a turn into a much bigger conversation about the state of the comic book industry, particularly how comics and comic book adaptations handle characters of color. What’s getting better? What still needs work? And why does representation continue to be such a complicated conversation?

And because we can never stay on one topic for too long, there’s plenty more—including The Dark Knight Returns, the importance of comic book costumes in movies and TV, and whether getting those costumes right actually matters to the overall adaptation.

So if you’re into Marvel, DC, X-Men, Batman, comic books, superhero movies, and the occasional friendly argument about all of the above, give this episode of All About Comics a listen. There’s a lot to talk about!
